I was sorting through old photo folders when I came across this photo I took a few years ago when we visited the coastal town of Port Lincoln on the Eyre Peninsula in South Australia.
Walking around town we saw this sign outside a small restaurant advertising for staff, and we had a good laugh. Just typical Australian humour!
Hope they didn't have too much trouble finding someone suitable šš

...a 'Gun Kitchen Hand?'
ReplyDeleteNot too sure Tom, but I presumed it had to do with the film "Top Gun" = the best, most important person...
DeleteTom has the same question I did!
ReplyDeleteNot sure William, I presumed it had to do with "Top Gun" = the best!
Deletevery good capture! I worked in a kitchen with professional staff for a charity event I wrote about. I was told and will never forget: "Do it quickly without hurrying."
ReplyDeleteThat's interesting Cloudia. Now "quickly without hurrying" doesn't seem possible :)
DeleteI have the same question about the gun kitchen hand. I'm guessing it's a colloquialism.
ReplyDeleteI thinks so Elizabeth, I've never seen it used before or after...
DeleteI thought of the film "Top Gun" when I read that, so I assume they wanted the best kitchen hand.
I love this guy's humour. But i do wonder if the sign was legal to ask so many personal yet relevant questions. :)
ReplyDeleteWell...legally I don't think you can discriminate but this was a tongue in cheek advert aimed at teenagers.
DeleteThey know hat they want!
ReplyDeleteI think they do, just wonder if they got it!
DeleteWhat if they have girlfriend and boyfriend problems?
ReplyDeleteNo need to apply then I think, lol.
DeleteWell, that pretty much eliminates most of humanity. :-)
ReplyDeleteCertainly a lot of people fall into those categories, lol.
DeleteSerƔ que querem mesmo contratar alguƩm?? :)))
ReplyDeletePois, bastantes requisitos :)
Deletehehe divertido minha amiga.

Obrigada Francisco, os Australianos tem um bom sentido de humor.
DeleteYou made me laugh!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marianne :)
DeleteWonder if a gun hand is in balance with the questions on the pamflet.
ReplyDeleteProbably not...Thanks Stef.
DeleteMakes you wonder if they ever found a person who met all the qualifications. Nice find Sami.
ReplyDeleteYes it was a tall order, I wonder, lol
DeleteWell, with my right ear being deaf (hopefully only temporarily) .. but the rest I could do! :-)
ReplyDeleteHumour I got for sure!
I could fit most of it apart from not wanting to work on weekends, and of course not keen on being a kitchen helper either :)
DeleteHere I am the kitchen helper anyways as Ingo is doing the cooking ;-)
DeleteNot so bad at home, but in a restaurant it must get quite hectic!
DeleteMore hectical than Ingo? ;-)
DeleteWell they certainly were specific Sami š
ReplyDeleteVery!! Thanks Grace :)
DeleteThey weren't too picky! Funny sign.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lois :)
DeleteI could qualify but I don’t want to!
ReplyDeleteWouldn't want that job either. Thanks Sallie.
DeleteAs long as it's a kitchen hand without a gun then it's all good.
ReplyDeleteDon't think guns are allowed at all Jim :)
DeleteDearest Sami,
ReplyDeleteLOVE this kind of great humor and indeed, let's hope that they found what they were aiming for!
Did you get my email with a special mural?
Sending you hugs,
Mariette
