Signs - Strawberry picking

Strawberry season is in full swing, and it reminded me when I went strawberry picking with some friends, exactly two years ago in a berry farm just north of the city of Perth.

It was a very hot but fun day, and I brought home 2 boxes of strawberries that cost us $5 a box, plus we could eat whatever we wanted.

Monday Murals - Monkey Bar

Two murals from Mandurah, painted by local artist Steve Briggs, painted at the Monkey Bar, located in Pinjarra Road.

He painted the murals for free as a way to give back to his community.

Apparently the technique used for the eyes of the monkey is the same used with the "Mona Lisa", where the eyes follow you no matter where you stand in the room.

Signs - Life is short

"Life is short, break the rules.
Forgive quickly, Kiss slowly, Love truly, laugh uncontrollably
and never regret anything that made you smile".

I've seen these sayings forever, but they are still good advice.

Monday Mural - Lane murals

In the same lane where I spotted last week's mural at the back of the Alex Hotel and the State Library of Western Australia, which is next to the new Perth Museum, were a few other murals.

If you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme is for you; just follow the Linky steps below.   Once you start looking you find murals everywhere. Be sure to link back to this blog and visit your fellow posters.

Looking forward to your mural finds posted this week. Monday mural meme is posted at 12,01am Monday, Western Australian time.  Thanks, Sami.

This first mural was painted by Perth artist Kyle-Hughes Odgers. Don't know when it was painted, but maybe because it's in an out of the way lane backing the hotel and various bars and restaurants, sadly the mural has a lot of graffiti on it.

The little lane where the murals were seen. To the left was the bee and birds mural

The rock and roll mural at the back advertises Joe's Juice Joint, which in 2019 was recognized as the world's best dive bar (not sure what that is?) and Alabama Song, another bar upstairs, both owned by the same person.

And this geometric mural, that I had already posted in 2015, is just nearby at the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts in James street, in the Cultural Centre, was painted by Italian artist Teo Pirisi  aka "Moneyless" for Form's 2015.

Signs - Budapest

Some signs from our visit to Budapest, Hungary in April 2018.

Considering I wasn't yet participating int he Signs meme, I'm amazed at the quantity of photos with signs that I took in Budapest. And...looking through this album I found murals I hadn't yet posted, so the will be shown in the near future.

For other signs from across the world please visit Tom's blog.

On Friday I met up with two former colleagues in the city, and we walked around what is known as Perth's Cultural Centre, to have a look at the new WA Museum.

The Museum will reopen to the public on the 21st of November, after four years of extensive renovations, with a new building and a new name - WA Museum Boola Bardip.

Walking around the block I came across a few murals in a little lane between the Museum and  the Alex Hotel - a small boutique hotel, with this mural being the nicest.

It was apparently just finished last week, and was painted by Ketones 6000 (aka Jerome Davenport) and shows a native Blue Banded bee and a Budgerigar.

I was thrilled with the find 😊.

Remembering Sintra

Joining Stevenson's Timeless Thursdays.

Friday is my day off work, and as sat down to breakfast and checked my phone, I was reminded that exactly 3 years ago I was in Sintra (Portugal) and a few photos of our visit to this beautiful town popped up. I really felt nostalgic thinking about that trip and how I'm missing family and travelling.

This was the only time in about 20 years that we had managed to get together the whole immediate family from my side and from Jose's side for a double event - our daughter's engagement and grandson's Christening at the end of August.

I call it my United Nations Family, as they are spread around the world and in 2017 they came to Portugal from South Africa, Angola, The United States, Netherlands, Azores and Australia for the celebrations.

In the second week of September, two of the Doctors from the Clinic where I work, and the husband of the female Doctor, arrived on their first visit to Portugal, and I took them around Lisbon, Cascais and Sintra.  They loved Portugal, the food, the friendly people and vowed to visit again.

And here are some photos of the day spent in Sintra with the Doctors and my daughter Karina - exactly on the 11th of September.

We started by visiting Sintra's National Palace, or Town Palace, as it is located in the village of Sintra, a very well preserved medieval royal residence, which was inhabited from the 15th to the 19th century by the various Portuguese royal families.

The palace has exquisite themed ceilings and tiled walls.

After this visit we drove up the Sintra mountain to the Pena Palace , one of Portugal's most visited monuments, with it's distinctive red and yellow walls.

It's a fairytale palace and certainly worth a visit. It is surrounded by beautiful gardens, but we didn't have much time to visit those.

And sadly there was no time to visit the Castle of the Moors nearby...
And there was so much more to see in Sintra... next time!

Hope you enjoyed visiting or revisiting some of Sintra's beautiful monuments.
You can read more about them by clicking on the links highlighted in pink.
