Signs - Recycling

Photos taken over a year ago at one of my visits to our Ikea store. Whenever I go there, usually to meet up with Grace from Perth Daily Photo I take our used batteries or lamps and drop them in their containers.

There are of course other companies that take all sorts of recyclable materials and I do my best to sort my waste accordingly. In our neighbourhood we have a lady that works for a plastic recycling company and she collects all the nr. 1 and 2 plastics, so every couple of weeks I drop these off into the big collection bag in her front garden.

Recently Western Australia introduced a 10 cent refund for eligible beverage containers - water and soft drink cans and bottles, beer cans and bottles, etc, and hopefully this will also help the environment. But I still see many people throwing their bottles or cans into the bins...

For other signs from around the world please visit Tom's blog.

  1. On one hand it always hurt to throw those plastic bottles in the rubbish bin at the caravan park, yet I hope you get good recycling machines! Here we have but one!!! All other are so slow it drives one nuts. Or there is an endless queue. Or the container is full... Happy recycling ;-)

    1. Because the 10c recycling scheme is quite new I have yet to take my containers to the nearest depot, but there are a few. At the moment I have a bag in the boot of my car where I keep them. To that I had the 2 or 3 milk bottles from work. Thanks Iris 😊

  2. Plastic recycling is a nightmare. Our local council tells us one thing and an authoritative person tells us something else.

    1. Certainly not SC, I can only try to do my part and hope everyone else does their best too.

  4. ...it's my understanding that the cost of recycling some items exceeds what the market is willing to pay for them. Throwing away something of value makes no sense to me, but I question if everything is recycled. Thanks Sami for stopping by, I hope that your week is going well.

    1. That is true Tom. I can only wish that less plastics were made and more plastics were recycled. Thanks for hosting 😊

  5. Our IKEA does the same. We have a lot of drop off points run by the city. Our electronics usually go to Best Buy, an electronics store.
It drives me nuts when I buy some things and they are encased in that hard plastic.
Costco also drives me crazy with their plastic packaging.

  6. There are many places here to drop off recycle. It's good to know what is what and your signs do that quite nicely.

Have a fabulous day, Sami. ♥

  7. Dearest Sami,
Here too we can recycle most things, like batteries at Home Depot.
It makes quite a difference, provided that ALL people start doing this.
Wish they would pressure China more for producing better lasting quality products so we all can reduce the waste... Things just don't hold up anymore nowadays and we're paying more for it. All in the name of $$$, just for greed, never with the environment in mind.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Manufacturers seem to care more about overproducing cheap things than looking after the environment, but Governments should be the ones to lay down the rules.

  13. I often question whether it is more costly to use our precious water supply to wash all that plastic that no one seems to want, anyway. It's a great post, Sami.

BTW, I use #6 plastic to make shrinky dinks and I'm now using #1 plastic to make altered books. I guess I should call them alternative books.

The lady that takes the Nr 1 and 2 plastics says they use them to make outdoor benches among other things.

  19. I wish they did better recycling here. The U.S. is not doing as good a job as the rest of the world.
