If you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme is for you. Just follow the Linky steps below. Once you start looking you find murals everywhere.
Another mural in Subiaco, at the Santa Fe Restaurant, at 315 Hay Street.
Painted by Australian street artist Fieldey and New Zealand artist Erika Pearce, who combined styles to turn a boring wall in a busy street into a psychedelic Mexican fiesta.
It features the Mexican painter Frida Kahlo, holding a sacred heart with a vessel flowing down the wall to join a smaller heart held by a spider monkey.
Frida used to keep spider monkeys as pets, and they feature in a lot of her self portraits.
You can watch a 4 min. Youtube video about the painting of this mural.
That is truly a beautiful mural.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon.
DeleteI can't get Linky links to work, Sami. I get an error message that there isn't enough disk space. If anyone knows how to work around this, please let me know. I tried from the web, from my computer and a generic image. All gave me the same error message.
ReplyDeleteHere is my link:

It worked Elizabeth, just no image.
DeleteThe Frida images are just wonderful! I also had trouble with the linky tool, and settled for a "generic" image.
ReplyDeletebe well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Thanks Mae, not sure why, but it only seem to have happened to you and Elizabeth.
DeleteThat is a really, really good example of Frida. She was such an icon and the mural is stunning, right down to the praying individual between her and her spider monkey. And of course, the hearts. Always the hearts. And the flowers in her hair. Simply wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth, glad you enjoyed the mural.
DeleteAfter I saw that Mae had been able to use generic, I did the same. I have NO idea what the image is, but I'll take it!!

DeleteAn excellent mural of an amazing woman
ReplyDeleteThanks Debbie.
DeleteIt looks like a resurrection of Frida Kahlo anywhere. Even here in the netherlands but a nice mural it is for sure.
ReplyDeleteShe is becoming more and more popular it seems, maybe all the colour she used in her art. Thanks SC
DeleteAmazing murals you always find overthere!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marianne :) I keep on find more murals...
DeleteI am sure that Frida Kahlo could never have imagined that she would be featured on murals in Australia, but she has become a bit if a cult figure in many respects, like Che Guevara but for entirely different reasons of course. This is a very ambitious work, Sami. You have presented us with many, many murals, and I think it is time to do your own. i think a vineyard and a Portuguese fish market on the side of your house would do just fine. I will look forward to it!
ReplyDeleteThanks David, I agree that Frida could not have ever imagined she would be so popular all over the world.
DeleteI live in a brick house, so no murals :) but I have lots of walls full of my own paintings, and that's enough colour and art.
One day you will have to show us your paintings. I am sure we would all enjoy seeing them, and then we could brag about our famous artist friend in Western Australia!
DeleteI will one for sure David. Unfortunately very few artists became famous or make money :)
DeleteI am a Frida fanatic!! I have two cushions featuring her in my bedroom, and so many more Frida collectives. I've been to exhibits here and there. And just yesterday I realized how many photos I have of her.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed the mural Jackie.
