Saturday Critters - Birds and Spider

And here are some birds ... and a spider that I came across on my last visit to Sydney in March.

For more Saturday Critters from around the world check Eileen's blog.

PS: Thanks to David Gascoigne for helping to correctly identify some of the birds :)
Masked Lawping or Masked Plover
Dusky Moornhen nesting in a pond in the Royal Botanic Gardens

Lots of Australian wood ducks in the Royal Botanic Gardens

Crested pigeon (Manorina melanocephala)

Noisy Miner (Manorina melanocephala)

Ibis in the Royal Botanic Gardens
Ibis or Bin Chickens as they are also known
Ibis or Bin Chicken
Ibis and lots of Silver gulls
And the spider web that I saw at the Botanic Gardens.

The spider can hardly be seen, just the gigantic web stretching all over the tree

  2. Just in case you are interested the bird you refer to as a Red-billed Coot is a Dusky Moorhen, the ducks are Maned Ducks, also called Australian Wood Ducks, and the gulls are Silver Gulls. Thanks for these nice shots of birds! Yippee!

  5. Good captures. You didn't come across a brush turkey, the newest Sydney pest bird after the Ibis?

  6. Wonderful photos, Sami. I've only heard of sea gulls (and spider webs) before. The rest of the birds were all new to me.

    1. Thanks Elizabeth. I presume with birds each continent must have their own different species. I think Sea gulls are everywhere though :)

    1. Aqui os animais nao parecem ter medo das pessoas e adaptaram-se bem nas cidades.

  8. That Crested pigeon looks even pretty!
And, ohh, the Noisy Miner - what a name :-)
Bin chicken, really, so mean, that name. But it always makes me grin, too. And do I miss seagulls (spiders... not "so much").
    Great series, Sami!

    1. Thanks Iris. I enjoy seeing the Ibis too. We don't see that many in Perth, but lately I see a "couple" that often sit on top of the roof of the Nursing Home across from the clinic where I work.

  9. A lovely series of feathered Sydney-siders Sami 😉 There is a house around the corner from us where the residents obviously know what Ibis eat, quite often see six or seven Ibis munching away on their lawn, really weird to see 😀

    1. That's funny Grace, I wonder if they leave their leftovers on the lawn for the Ibis, lol.

  10. Hello Sami, I just love all your beautiful birds. A few of my favorites are the Ibis and the Lapwing. The Noisy Miner is cool too. That spider's nest is huge. Great collection of birds and photos. Thank you so much for linking up and sharing your post. Happy Saturday, enjoy your day and weekend. PS, thank you for the comment on my blog.

  13. Dearest Sami,
Love that crested pigeon, so cute!
The web is hard to detect and as for giant spiders, we've seen some in Indonesia!
