Monday Mural - Preservation of Nature

A couple of murals entitled "Preservation of Nature", featuring the work of Perth artists Melski McVee and Brenton Seepainted in 2017 in the suburb of Hamilton Hill (2 Simms Road) on the walls of the local tiny shopping centre and parking area.

Once in a while I travel to the Hamilton Hill IGA (food store) owned by a Portuguese man, where I buy  Portuguese ingredients like dry cod fish.

Both murals portray endangered species, specifically the Red Tailed Black Cockatoo painted by Brenton See, who is a lover of birds and has a project to paint birds that are at risk of disappearing in Western Australia.

If you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme is for you;

  6. Both of these are fabulous. They are both clever and very colorful. What struck me was you have IGA. It never occurred to me that this store chain would make it all the way to Australia.

    1. Thanks Elizabeth. Well, I had no idea IGA was an American chain. It's a store where I hardly ever shop for the day to day stuff as I find it more expensive than the other supermarkets.

    1. I think so too Andrew, Brenton specialises in birds, apparently he used to raise birds as a youngster and then took an interest in those birds that are at risk of disappearing.

    1. There seems to be quite a lot of murals around Perth. Even private people commission artists to paint murals in their gardens or house walls.

  17. Wow! Never seen an IGA with a mural and this one is a doozy! We have a few IGA left here in Wisconsin but they are a dying breed.

    1. Thanks Pam. Not sure about their business here, but they seem to do well, they open earlier than the other supermarkets and close later too (here in Perth anyway).

  21. Dearest Sami,
    The murals you show us here are incredibly well done!
    As for the IGA, just looked it up because we do have them here as well. They are Independent Grocers from Australia, never knew that... Interesting and often times a small world!

    1. Thanks Mariette. IGA's were founded in the States apparently, but we have 1400 independent family owned stores in Australia.
      We do live in a small world indeed.
