All about Twiggy

Today it's all about Twiggy, one of our two Tortoiseshells, sister to Shelley and Fluffy

Named after the 70's British model Twiggy,  when she was born she was the tiniest of the 8, but was the first to get out of the "nest", and we thought she would be fearless.

In March 2014 she lost her Mom (Mommy) to whom she was very close to, and just a couple of weeks later she was attacked by a cat or dog and her belly was ripped open. Since then  think she became frightened, hiding every time someone knocks on the door, if friends visit or even odd noises in the house.

Twiggy recovering from the operation to stitch up her belly

She hates being picked up, meowing in panic if we do that.
During the day she's very wary, and won't even sit with us, so we can either find her either sleeping on our bed, or hiding somewhere, but at night she seems to mellow and relax and becomes more lovable, sitting near us if we're watching tv in the lounge, or jumping into bed when we go to sleep, usually sleeping curled up next to me.

With Fluffy on the couch, both of them sitting next to my legs

Catching some sun in the garden

In the garden, years ago when she could still jump

And she used to love her confined spaces or unusual places to sleep as you can see by the photos 😆

Apparently tortoiseshell cats are said to bring good luck, and are sometimes called "money cats" in the United States.
Not sure if our two tortoishells brought us luck, but I think they are lucky to have found us to care for them for sure. But we love them too of course.

  1. Twiggy is beautiful. Poor baby to be attacked like that. I hope over the years she can slowly regain her confidence. Maybe picking her up still causes her pain from internal scar tissue and that is why she dislikes it.

  5. Dearest Sami,
Twiggy is a sweet little kitty. Sad that she lost the Mommy she loved to cuddle with.
And how frightening that dog attack must have been!
Glad she mended and lived a reasonable life since then.
Yesterday the Shower Glass got newly installed after having several issues with it, but all our kitties hid somewhere outside, for hours since they left! Only the eldest Barty is more at ease around people, he napped on the guest bed.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Thanks Mariette. Oh your cats also don't like strangers, it's strange that at least Twiggy and Fluffy will disappear when our son, wife and kids visit every 2 weeks even though he lived here until about 6 years ago. I assume it's because of the wife and now babies that make them scared.

  6. My childhood dog was attacked by two other dogs we had. The mama dog had got him pretty good in the neck. He managed to recover greatly and I can't tell if that affected him after the fact. I remember he was deeply scared as the blood on his neck was still fresh. He was always a quiet and timid dog but he never acted differently to any of us.

    1. That's sad, glad he was ok. Twiggy's Mom was attacked by two bull terriers belonging to a former neighbour, even though there were no external signs, not even blood, her internal injuries were bad, so we had to put her down :(

  10. I was worried this was going to be a sad tale, but was THRILLED when I read she's doing well, even after all that trauma she experienced early in her life. Yes, it's so good that you are in her life and I'm sure she is thrilled, too. Great and uplifting post, Sami.

  11. Oh, she went through a lot of sad and scary things! Great she has you to care for her and great to hear she at least regained some trust.
Having a pet sure has a lot to do with responsibility.

  14. Twiggy is one beautiful girl! She reminds me of our Tribe member, LIly, who is a very timid girl and accepts love only on her terms but she is a sweetie.

  19. Twiggy is obviously a cat with 9 lives, she has very pretty markings. No wonder that she is still afraid, that was a huge attack poor little thing. I would be sneezing all night with dogs sleeping on me!

  20. She is so beautiful. SO beautiful. And what a good home she landed in. I can see why she's nervous after her encounter at whatever tore her belly. And of course, liking confined, safe spaces where she won't easily be invaded. I'm glad she becomes cozier at night, more relaxed. And it seems she gets on well with the others, so that's good. I'm so glad you shared this. Her story both breaks my heart and makes me smile.
