Saturday Critters - Doves in my garden

One of the birds that I regularly see in my garden are the doves.
They usually build their nests in the lemon/mandarin (tangerine) tree, flimsy nests that a strong wind can bring down. More than once I found tiny eggs on the pavers under the tree...

But in the last year or two the same nest has been used a few times and the doves seem to have re-enforced it as it looks quite strong now.
A couple of doves have been born and flown the nest, the last two around Christmas time  after we arrived from the Philippines, but Mother dove is back on the nest and I've spotted one baby.

Doves aren't very clever birds, or so I think, but I enjoy seeing them in the garden.
I feed them bird seed, reason why I think they feel at home and come back to nest regularly.

The Dove couple maybe?

And this is the new nesting mommy, who's been sitting on the nest for the last 2 or 3 weeks.

Watchful Mom

A couple of days ago, one of the doves, maybe the male flew onto the lemon tree on the other side of the garden and Fluffy heard the noise and positioned himself under the tree looking up.
Luckily the cats are too old to climb trees...
What birds do you get in your gardens?

  7. Nice captures of the doves. Fluffy would like to have a close relationship with them, I bet. :) I once had a cat that would sit and stare at the tree hoping he could get a bird. Never did but I think he enjoyed the watching game.
    Have a wonderful weekend, Sami.

    1. Thanks Bill. My cats used to catch little birds in their younger days, they are 11 now so not as agile, thank goodness as I like to see birds in my garden!

    1. Thanks Andrew. I don't like pigeons, but don't mind doves, although they aren't too clever.

  11. I love the doves in my garden, they go about things in a much quieter way than the corellas that are screeching out there right now 😊 lovely shots captured here Sami ✨

  12. Doves are survivors and do well, so they must be doing something right.

  15. Yes cats love birds in a tree so close by. But a dove is much to big for them...

    1. Fluffy once caught a racing pigeon with a leg ring and brought him home.
I saw it I caught the poor bird and took him out, calmed the bird down and let him fly away.

    1. Thanks Jeanie. The cats don't really pay much attention to the birds (now sitting on the nest) just if they see them moving around.

  18. Dearest Sami,
Whatever birds we have in our yard, it is a joy to watch them.
We do feed them year round and during the cold of winter we again had the gold finches that we feed the fine thistle seeds.
Hummingbirds will soon be back too.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

I don't think we get robins here, or at least I haven't seen any.
