Monday Mural - Lisbon Patchwork

Welcome to my first hosting of Monday Murals, please link your posts below.
Thanks, Sami

A ten minute walk from the Moorish Castle of Saint George in Lisbon, I found this 5 metre long delightful mural which was painted in 2009 by Nadine Rodrigues and Jose Vargas.
The mural can be found at Largo dos Trigueiros, Mouraria (just atop the steps at Beco dos Surradores).

The original drawing was done in 1949 by the painter, writer and teacher Mário  Dionísio (1916-1993) and was meant to have been painted at a Cafe across the Rossio    Station in Lisbon's centre. The Cafe project didn't go ahead and the painted model was then only used in 2009 for this wall.

  2. I was thinking the exact same thing Tom said before I read his comment. It does seem a bit like Picasso's later work. This is a great first mural with you hosting.

  3. It reminds me of Picasso, too. Oh, and I like the tiles in the last pic. Hmmm, we have a Punjabi here, too.

By chance I stumbled over these news today: Paint back (with YouTube-video and gallery) is a project that started in Germany. Spain, Italy and Greece are joining, too. They paint back the nastiest symbol ever known.
(And, just by another chance I have some murals today, too, but as I cannot guarantee weekly ones I do not join, I hope you understand.)
