Monday Mural meme is posted at 12,01am Monday, Western Australian time. Thanks, Sami.
In October 2018 I posted this mural made with 8000 hand-made tiles, by Portuguese/Australian artist Luis Geraldes in the Sydney suburb of Petersham, also known as "Little Portugal".
In 2019 I visited the same area, but took the train and discovered some bright murals on the staircase leading to the station.
Painted in 2018, the various murals titled Vanishing Point were painted by George Rose, Brad Eastman, James Simon and Tim Phibs.
Post about the first mural:
Wow. These murals are both bright and colorful. I'm having trouble seeing the railway tracks from aerial photos, though. I do agree they are gorgeous geometric images. Lovely photos, Sami.
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth. Just checked on google maps and I could see the red/blue/yellow lines that correspond to the train lines that go past Petersham station.
DeleteThe station is at the junction of Trafalgar and Audley street and the murals are right in front of a roundabout.
Murals on a staircase offer an unusual challenge to the artists, and this seems to be a good way to respond. Nice find!
ReplyDeletebe well... mae at maefood.blogspot.com
Thanks Mae, couldn't have been easy to paint them.
Delete...a beautiful and colorful addition to what can be a dark spot. Thanks Sami for hosting this get together.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom :)
DeleteDearest Sami,
ReplyDeleteArtist Georgia Rose sure did adhere to the color of his surname!
Hugs,
Mariette
The colours go with the surname for sure :) Thanks Mariette.
Delete😜
DeleteLet us walk through the color treatment. That feels better!
ReplyDeleteThanks Cloudia :)
DeleteSo colourful :)
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
Thanks Jan :)
DeleteWow. It is not too many murals that receive a plaque. Imagine what it might look like without the murals.
ReplyDeleteThat's true, I haven't seen many murals with plaques. Thanks Andrew.
DeleteLooks like serious overkill to me.
ReplyDeleteToo bright for you David.
DeleteAbsolutamente espectacular!!
ReplyDeleteBoa semana
Obrigada Pedro, boa semana para si tambem.
DeleteSuch cheery sights.
ReplyDeleteThank you for hosting, Sami.
Have a good week.
Thanks Dee :)
DeleteVanishing Point sounds scary, Sami! But the murals, especially the fish make it easier.
ReplyDeleteI remember Sydney 1995. Ingo was staying in the deep garage to sell our car and I had an arvo off. Went to the tube at King´s Cross and could not read the maps! Asked a nice-looking man for the right train and he knew straight away.
Huh???
Waited for another, both were right, I did not vanish.
But murals, back then? I cannot remember any.
Probably no murals back then Iris. Or if there were we probably didn't notice either :)
DeleteWhat wonderful colour! It's a bit abstract for me, Sami, and without the plaque I wouldn't have got the theme. But it's still good to see such a bright welcome to the station - was there more inside?
ReplyDeleteNo murals inside the station Debbie, just these on the staircase.
DeleteGreat mural must be also a bit of protection to avoid graffiti in the dark corners.
ReplyDeleteProbably is SC. Thanks :)
DeleteAmazing murals, great clicks.
ReplyDeleteThanks Rupam.
DeleteVivid colours, Sami!
ReplyDeleteThanks Teresa :)
DeleteThe tile mural is gorgeous Sami, beautiful colours. I recognised Phybs style in the second mural 💙💜
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace. I recognised his style too :)
DeleteWow, such brilliant colors. It really brightens up those stairs.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon.
DeleteYou always have such nice murals overthere.
ReplyDeleteWe are lucky Marianne, there seems to be a lot of artists and a lot of murals being painted.
DeleteCertainly livens up what otherwise would be just another humdrum public stairway.
ReplyDeleteThanks Mark.
DeleteIt makes those stairs into a special place!
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat.
DeleteSplendid murals! Love to look at the geometric patterns.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gigi.
Deletevery eye catching. makes the whole space bright and cheerful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Klara :)
DeleteSo bright and beautiful ... you have the best!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sallie :)
DeleteI like the concept but wow! I think I would feel stressed by that particular stairwell.
ReplyDeleteMaybe a bit overwhelming with all of the murals overlapping. Thanks Linda.
DeleteOutstanding
Very colourful.
ReplyDeleteI love that hot pink -- such a great summer (or is it winter?) color!
