Monday Mural - Pray for us

Another mural from Lisbon's  "Hall of Fame", near the Amoreiras Shopping Centre (Av. Conselheiro Fernando de Sousa), which encompasses about 750 sq mt (8,072 sq ft) of walls and has been utilized for street art since the 1990's, with about 90 paintings in exhibition.

Painted by self taught Brazilian artist Vespa (Claudinei Oliveira) , it shows the sad faces of Amazonian Indian children with the words "Pray for us".

  2. Very beautiful images of children! The Brazilians are definitely guilty of terrible abuse of the native people as well as of careless -- or even intentional -- destruction of the environment. I visited the upper Amazon in Peru, where the people and the trees are better protected. Unfortunately the horrendous destruction of the Amazon peoples occurred over 100 years ago during the relatively brief boom in collecting rubber from the native trees, and there hasn't been a real recovery. The term "crime against humanity" was first used to describe what was done to these children's forebears.

    2. Thank you Mae. I had no idea in Peru the upper Amazon was better cared for.

  3. It is hard to believe that the people of Brazil just elected an ultra right wing whack job who has already stripped the rain forest of its protection. Indigenous peoples will not fare well under this régime.

    1. Sadly governments all over the world seem to be failing to take action to protect our environment. I suppose we are the ones to blame if we elect the wrong people! Thanks David
