Sydney - Day 1 - Vivid Sydney & Signs

I flew to Sydney on Wednesday 5th June, arriving at 7,30 pm after a 40 minute delay due to high winds.
At the airport I caught the train into Circular Quay station where my husband Jose awaited me.

Lights at Circular Quay Station

It was time for dinner and after snapping a few photos of  some of the buildings lit up for the Vivid Lights Festival we headed to Caminetto Italian Restaurant  in the historic neighbourhood of The Rocks, right under the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Vivid Sydney is an annual festival of light and music and includes outdoor immersive light installations and projections and performances by local and international musicians.

When we finished dinner we walked back to Circular Quay.
Close to the restaurant (intersection of George and Playfair str), this large sandstone sculpture has 3 figures carved on each side representing - convicts, settlers and soldiers - the first group of people that settled in Sydney.
"First Impressions" was designed and sculpted by Bud Dumas, commissioned by the Sydney Cove Redevelopment Authority in 1979.

Sydney Harbour Bridge - I loved the flashing dancers with the bridge in the background.

The Opera House was dazzling with an array of bright colours.

The Museum of Contemporary Art displayed some signs.

Inside the Overseas Passenger Terminal, some people were lying on the floor to see the colourful lights that would go up and down and change colours.

It was about 10,30 pm, Jose had to work the following day, and the bus ride would take 30 minutes, so we made our way to the bus stop a few blocks up, and I took my last photos of Customs House, on the other side of Circular Quay station and of the beautiful endangered turtles.

  3. The lights at Circular Quay station sure look very inviting.
"First Impressions" is very well done, too. And the dancers, "LOVE", everything!
But the turtles are my favorites!

    1. Sorry that you don't like it David. It is very popular with the locals and brings a lot of tourists too. Some people come for the lights, others for the music shows.

  5. The opera house never fails to amaze me. I've never seen a photo of it illuminated like that. Such a great idea! Looks like a wonderful festival of lights as you are closing in on your shortest day of the year.
