Monday Murals - The beast

Painted in April 2016, for Public Form 2016 at Curtin University, by Perth artist Hayley Welsh.
A lot of her murals feature this type of creature.
I managed to get there when she was halfway through her mural.

  1. Looks a bit sad. But a crown and books by a university has to mean something. Thanks for showing.

  4. The beast is wearing a crown. Must be king of beasts, but that does not seem to be making it happy. Interesting mural.

  6. Her creatures do look a little sad but the quotes she writes beside them are always quite inspirational. I really must get down there Sami, not so much to take photos but more just to see 😊

    1. Thanks Grace, he does look sad. I didn't see a quote, maybe that was painted later. Maybe next time we meet up you could come this side of the river and I'll take you to Curtin Uni.

  8. I love the eyes but they are so sad looking. A crown and some books make the beast a king for the day. Nice photos and thanks for sharing!

  12. I had intended to get here sooner, but I've really just been too sick to get out of bed for days.

I was impressed with how the area was cordoned off allowing the artist time and space to work.

I thought this was a very soulful beast. I enjoyed the symbolism of the crown and the "back pack" of books. Not sure what it all means, but it certainly gives rise to good conversations. Thanks for sharing these photos with us.

  15. Dearest Sami,
Indeed it is a rather grim beast... Love its eyes!
Your photo where the eyes are not been done yet, is such a stark contrast with the end result.
    Hugs and happy Sunday,
    Mariette
