A fun day in Fremantle

Had my day off work today, and together with my daughter in law we drove to Fremantle to photograph murals, have lunch and enjoy the sunshine.

After driving around I spotted this ginormous cruise ship, so we had to go and take some close-up photos!

Can you spot the cruise ship?

We parked the car and took some photos. The cruise ship Diamond Princess - on a 12 night cruise ending in Singapore, was docked right here in Fremantle!Check out the amazing deck plans, 17 or 18 floors of fun.
Pity that due to security reasons no visitors are allowed.
The Diamond Princess can be seen in the distance from the Dome cafe

Just before returning home we stopped at the Riverside Road "Dome Cafe" for a cold smoothie.
With beautiful river views and the warm weather, their esplanade was just the right spot for some relaxing time. It actually felt as if we were on holiday. Oh bliss...
Far away I could see the cruise ship...

Quirky house boat
On the river close to the Cafe was this quirky boat, which I presume is a house boat. It reminded me of house boats I saw in Amsterdam last year, although this one a bit smaller.

When we left the Cafe (above) a cute Pelican was picking his food off the rocks in the river margin.

When I dropped off my daughter in law at her house I noticed a cloud of black smoke near their residential area. I later learned it was a fire that destroyed a factory. Not good!

Well, I'm now dreaming of a cruise holiday, maybe sometime next year when I get my long-service leave. (8 2/3 weeks).
Have you had any interesting cruises?

  1. Oh, wow, that ship truly is insanely huge! Impressive!

That was my first thought when I saw your new pic at FB, but then... not that big a ship?!
    Well, obviously.

Ha-ha, I will tell my customer and colleagues about your long-term leave so they never again tease about my 6-week-ones!
    Have you plans yet?

That house boat looks really cute. And so many pelicans!

Here last night a huge plant that produces chicken meat burned down, they will have to let go of many employees.

    1. HI Iris, I was amazed at how huge that ship was!!
I'm glad I've stuck around the same company 9 years now, so I get long service leave next year. And then every 5 years after that I also get more leave. Great!! Nothing booked yet but I have been looking at cruises actually to New Caledonia (French islands not far from East coast of Australia).
Terrible about that fire when it involves people losing their jobs. Not sure about this factory that burned here today...

  2. Dearest Sami,
That was a nice surprise for running into such a 'city floating on water'... They are huge and yes, for security purpose they could become disaster if the wrong people would attack!
    God forbid.
Lovely photos and a day well spent with your daughter in law.
    Sending you hugs.

  3. I have seen those cruiseships in Amsterdam and Italy and Norway. A load of people is dropped at some places to visit and makes it very crowded for other touristts. No cruise for me, to massive all that floating apartment buildings!

    1. Thanks Marianne. Well this cruise ship had over 2500 people onboard so Fremantle was full of tourists walking around. It's also good for the economy.

  4. That certainly is a gigantic cruise ship. I would also love to take a stroll around the inside. One can only imagine (unless one is cruising on it)! Don't you just love pelicans? I suppose it is because of the hope for free food, but it seems the ones posted near docks seem quite undaunted by the curious humans who piddle about. That houseboat is interesting too. I have seen some on television shows that are permanently docked and lived in year round, each with its own personality! I enjoyed your post, Sami!

    1. Thanks J. I've only been on 1 cruise but the ship was a lot smaller, but still had a great time. I wish I could cruise more often...

    1. Hi Grace, it's funny that I'm not a beach person, a bit fearful of water, but being on a ship doesn't bother me.

    1. That must have been a great trip Wren. I agree, there's so much to do on these modern cruise ships there's just not enough time to try it all. Maybe it's time you took your husband on another cruise, lol.

  9. The moored boat is weird. Not exactly aerodynamic, is it. I've only cruised once, a river cruise from Budapest to Amsterdam. It was magical.

  10. Oh those lovely days that can taste like holiday, especially when it's warm.
I'm not too much into cruises and I never really understood why. Maybe is the feeling of being trapped in a defined space and not being able to do whatever I want. I know this is silly though, because cruises are huge and have a lot of entertainment. I might change my mind in the future, if the urge to walk and run around goes down.

    1. Thanks Sara. Yes,because you enjoy running, there wouldn't be that much open space on a ship for that.
