Monday Mural - Poppies for the people

I love murals and street art. If you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme is for you.  Just follow the Linky steps below.  Once you start looking you will find murals everywhere.  The "Monday Mural" meme goes live on Monday at 12,01AM, Perth,Western Australian time. Be sure to link back to this blog and visit your fellow posters. Looking forward to your mural finds this week.  Thanks, Sami.

Painted for Darwin's Street Art Festival 2017, by Melbourne artist Mike Makatron and Sped One, the mural was painted on the walls of the Darwin RSL club, adjoining a car park at 24 Austin Lane, in the city centre.

It represents the magic of the Australian flora and fauna with a twist - the red poppies of the French battlefields of WWI, to the green tropical vegetation of the Top End, home to the forever lost soldiers.

The Darwin RSL (Returned & Services League of Australia) celebrated their centenary on the 13th September 2017.

Can you see last week's mural at the end of the street?

  1. This is SO relevant for this week, Sami. Remembrance day will be here in a few days and this was the absolute perfect time to share these poppies that are a symbol of WWI. This is such a beautiful mural, and yes, I see the mural from last week, too.

    1. Thanks Elizabeth. You are right, I forgot to mention Remembrance Day on the 11th, as this mural would relate to it too.

  3. America is so busy with current challenges that I've seen almost no commemoration of Veteran's Day OR of its older identity, Armistice Day. I really like your mural's combining of symbolic flowers from two continents.

    1. Thanks Andrew. I was surprised at the dozens of murals I found in Darwin. And the week before I arrived they had the 2021 Darwin Street Art Festival, but the murals were painted in the suburbs, which I didn't visit.

  6. A clever and thoughtful mural. I like the blending of the green and red, linking lost soldiers around the world.

  7. these giants puppies are beautiful. I am always touched by the fact that the Commonwealth countries continue to honor the memory of the veterans who died on the battlefields of Europe, during this war where so many young men were sacrificed by their fathers in a terrible slaughter in the name of nationalism.

    1. Thanks Kwarkito. I find it remarkable too that these countries still honour the soldiers that were lost in the wars. Such a great tribute.

  18. It is very beautiful. The flora of Australia is so remarkable, and in so many cases quite different from elsewhere in the world. With luck, cooperation from COVID, and airline service that is reasonably priced, I will be back there in July.

    1. That is wonderful David. Let me know if you come to Perth at all. I haven't made travel plans yet, waiting on our Western Australian border to open hopefully by March, but our Premier is insisting on 90% double vaccination rate...we are at 66%, so it might take a while!

    1. Thanks Linda, the photos were taken in different days, the last one was taken through the fence in one street, but then I realized I could go to the next street as the area as opened, so a few days later went there.
