Monday Mural - The world belongs to those who read

I love murals and street art. If you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme is for you.  Just follow the Linky steps below.  Once you start looking you will find murals everywhere.  The "Monday Mural" meme goes live on Monday at 12,01AM, Perth,Western Australian time. Be sure to link back to this blog and visit your fellow posters. Looking forward to your mural finds this week.  Thanks, Sami.

This interactive mural was painted by Miss Polly for the first ever Darwin Street Art Festival in 2017, in Austin Lane in the city centre. She is the same artist that painted last week's mural - the Sturt Desert Rose.

Polly Johnstone is a Northern Territory based visual artist and arts educator, and she is passionate about creating art in public spaces for all to enjoy.

The quotes she used in the mural "A child who reads is an adult who thinks" and "The world belongs to those who read" are such important messages, specially for the younger generation who don't seem to read any books at all.

  1. ...this a fabulous mural with wonderful messages. "A child who reads is an adult who thinks," we can see this playing out today! Thanks Sami for hosting the party.

    1. Quite right Tom, most youngsters no longer read books.

  2. I read somewhere that if a child isn't read to by the time s/he is three, s/he won't read well in the future. I believe that. Parents who read to their children are far more interested in their educations. If a child can't read, the door to his/her future closes quite quickly. I love, love, love this and there is a clear and present message there for all to see and READ! This is a wonderful find for you, dear.

    1. Thank you Elizabeth. I remember my Mom reading to us, and I still love reading today. And I also read to my kids, my daughter is an avid reader, sadly my son doesn't read, he's more into technical stuff.

  3. Good mural with a public service message. I'm not sure reading alone is the key to intelligent life and thought, though. Maybe you are reading disinformation on social media? Not a way to promote sharp thinking. It takes more than that.

    1. Thanks Mae. I wouldn't say social media is what we should rely on when reading, but books yes.

  4. I am a huge bookworm and all 3 of my adult children are the same, helps to read to them from the time they are babies. We need more artists with this frame of mind.

  5. That's an excellent quote. Despotic leaders around the world don't want citizens to be educated and to be able to read well. Good work by Miss Polly.

  8. Dearest Sami,
Excellent art work on this mural but I do value its message even MORE.
Oh so true, reading is the basic for any child and I'm sure glad I was an avid reader from 1st grade on. My Parents were and so is my Pieter.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

The artist sure is sadly right, too few read books, too many play games.

    1. Thanks Iris. So nice that your niece enjoys reading, not many parents put that much importance in reading nowadays.

  15. Wonderful message, wonderful art.
I love reading to children as much as they love listening - so many important aspects to books and reading - wide education, ideas, logic, art, imagination, virtual travel, empathy, personal space, .... I could go on. :)
