Signs - Electile dysfunction

 Joining Tom for Signs2

I should have posted this before the elections 😄

Sign seen outside a pub in Fremantle last year

We just had the Western Australian State elections on the 13th March in which the Labor party's win was announced just 43 minutes after voting closed, with Mark McGowan returning as Premier for a second term.

He's become a bit of a super-hero to West Australians since our State has been spared from the Covid devastation that has swept over the world, by closing our borders to all the other states and to overseas visitors, which has allowed us to lead almost normal lives as well as having one of the best economies in Australia and the world.  (We only had 9 deaths from Covid).

Some people think he went too far by doing all this, but his landslide victory proves West Australians are happy with the way he handled the pandemic.

  1. And this is why "lille Corinna II" still sits here by my side - Australia still has code orange for packages for us!
Poor thing sits here since November! Not even sure if I send her at all - you might get stones instead of something yummy...

But!!! Yes, I think it was good to close borders. We go into yet another "hard" lockdown and this one might be awful.
Haven´t seen my Bro and Nieces for way too long.

The sign says it all, same here.

    1. It's sad Iris that hard lockdowns keep happening every couple of months. The same all over Europe I believe and people are getting tired of living indoors, not working, businesses losing money, closing down...

  2. The sign is very funny. While I understand the Premier's actions over COVID and protecting his people, I think turning people back home mid flight was out of order. He needed to give a little more notice, as most other states did before locking down borders. I suppose it is a little different in WA where the majority of people would arrive by air.

    1. Yes that was a bit over the top, I think he just wanted to show consistency, but doesn't always work. Thanks Andrew

  3. Great sign! It is true the world over. Many politicians seem motivated by idealism and the desire to improve society when they first run for office, but descend into sleaze and ineffectiveness in direct proportion to their time in office, when protecting their own behind becomes the only thing that counts.

    1. We do see a lot of that the world over, which is very sad. Thanks David

  4. We're now after confusing elections (yesterday) and even more confusing results. Covid-19, or more precisely the vaccine against it, used in the campaign. The vaccine has shamelessly become a toy in the hands of the politicians.

    1. That's sad when vaccines that could saves lives are used for political means. Thanks Duta

  6. Now that is a funny sign. Voting is so important to a democracy. Unfortunately there are those in my country that are trying to limit who can vote. Politicians should NOT choose their voters. It is suppose to be the other way around.

    1. Voting is compulsory here, very few abstentions and you get fined if you don't vote, so that solves the problem.

    2. Voting is both a privilege and a requirement of citizenship. We fought for voting rights in the 1960s, and will have to fight to keep voting rights now.

    3. I do hope the voting rights are kept, what a sad day for Democracy if some people are prohibited from voting!

    1. He certainly did Grace, we are very lucky to be in our position living such normal lives.

  8. Love that sign. Brilliant.

I don't think much of politicians, actors and actresses and even less with the mainstream media. I've turned all of them off.

    Have a fabulous day. ♥

  9. I do like that sign.

Theoretically, we won't see an election here until next year with municipal elections.

  10. Dearest Sami,
Good that the results for your election worked well!
Great that people get fined if they don't vote, never heard that one but it would work well!
    Hugs,

    1. Thanks Mariette. There are about 20 countries plus where voting is compulsory. The fines here are minimal but it gets people voting.

  11. It's a great political sign, Sami. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be all that true in the states. People are still fighting over who REALLY won the presidency. Not that over seven million votes separated the two candidates. We had more people vote this time than ever before. And the votes were polarized. We have NO requirement to vote here. To me, voting is a right and a privilege. I'm not sure I would want it to be mandatory. I somehow doubt it would ever become a law here. We are having enough trouble getting voter restriction rights suppressed. The bill to give voting rights to everyone has barely made it past a few of the committees in our senate. It may not pass when it gets to the senate floor.

I applaud your Premier. Many of the states are now removing their mask mandates, just as things were starting to turn around here. I see us getting more and more cases of the virus as the weather gets better. Sorry. I sort of got on a soap box, I guess.

    1. Not everybody has a right to vote? And sadly still fighting over who won!
How terrible that things don't seem to be improving in so many countries. Keep safe Elizabeth.

  13. Made me chuckle, that sign. With the election landslide, I guess the people have spoken. Warm greetings!
