The Princess of Wales, who became one of the most admired women of the world died at the tender age of 36 in an accident in Paris almost 22 years ago, on the 31st August 1997.
When I was looking at my SIGN folder of photos I saw this one and thought it was just the ideal time to use it.
This sign was photographed in Cascais, a town 30km outside of Lisbon (Portugal), where my Parents and my middle sister live, and where there is an avenue dedicated to the Princess - "Avenue Diana Spencer" (Princess of Wales).
For other signs from around the world head over to Tom's blog.
I also found some of Diana's quotes which are quite relevant and also resonate with me:
Family is the most important thing in the world.
Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.
Only do what your heart tells you.
I don't go by the rule book... I lead from the heart, not the head.
Pensamentos que fazem todo o sentido. Também concordo com eles.
ReplyDeleteObrigada Catarina.
DeleteNearly made me cry Sami. She was just wonderful and her death was just so awful.
ReplyDeleteShe certainly was, did a lot of good and changed the stiff upper lip British monarchy.
DeleteBeautiful sayings of her!
ReplyDeleteOh, my, I was young. I remember her wedding was shown in German news.
"The kiss" was so cold.
Her death certainly was not in the news (that much).
She was only 36?
This is very sad.
She found love too late... and for too short.
I remember the wedding too, had just started a new job and someone brought a TV and we all stood around watching.
Delete...I have never been into Royalty, but Diana had an appeal around the world. Thanks Sami for stopping by, I hope that you are enjoying your day.
ReplyDeleteShe was certainly admired by many. Thanks for hosting Tom.
DeleteI'm no fan of royalty, but I did love her. The only one in my lifetime that I followed. What a horrible day when she died.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day, Sami. ♥
Thank you Sandee, she was lovely.
DeletePerfect! I do love 'Random Acts of Kindness'---I try
ReplyDeleteMB
Thanks Small city scenes.
DeleteA lovely tile. It seems her sons take after her.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad they are following in her footsteps.
DeleteDearest Sami,
ReplyDeleteDid recognize the tiles right away as being Portuguese; so beautiful.
Yes, Princess Diana is so dearly missed.
She also was the Patron of The Leprosy Mission England and Wales... I've written about her here: https://mariettesbacktobasics.blogspot.com/2013/12/like-princess-diana-i-also-tried-to.html
Since here death, we have not had any high profiled figure speaking out on their behalf!
Hugs,
Mariette
She was very good helping many causes. Thanks Mariette.

DeleteIt is hard to believe that it has been that long!
ReplyDeleteIt's true, the years are just flying by Pat.
DeleteIncredible - Thanx For Sharing This One
ReplyDeleteCheers
Thanks Padre.
DeleteWhere is this? I saw a street sign like this style in Lisbon.
ReplyDeleteMy Signs
It's in Cascais :)
DeleteI was and still am a big fan of Diana too. I love this sign. It's really beautiful. I love the quotes, as well. I remember that day in almost crystal clear detail.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jeanie. I also remember well the day I heard the sad news.
DeleteDiana had wide appeal, and the way she died was tragic. Good to name a street after her. Lovely sign.
ReplyDeleteThank you Taken for granted.
DeleteDiana was a special person and I still love how special she is to this day. Far more so than that horsey faced woman who replaced her. And don't get me started about how the crown treated her death. My grandmother named me for the queen who she respected, and I lost all respect for that woman (the queen, not my grandmother) after she treated Diana like she was gum under her shoe. Diana was far more popular than any of the royals until Meghan came along. This is a super wonderful tribute to her and a beautiful sign marking the street dedicated to her. It's so good her memory won't soon be forgotten.
ReplyDeleteDiana was a special woman who changed the British monarchy and she transmitted great values to her sons. It's a beautiful street sign to honour Diana. Thanks Elizabeth.
DeleteShe died before I had a chance to know her, but I do recall when it happened.
ReplyDeleteThanks Adam, you're far too young then 😊
DeleteNice they named a street after her.
ReplyDeleteYes a nice honour.
DeleteHello, I was a fan of Diana too. The quotes are wonderful. Pretty sign and tribute.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your day, wishing you a happy weekend ahead!
Thank you Eileen, have a lovely week too.
DeleteEra uma mulher muito bonita.
ReplyDeleteE rebelde.
Talvez por ser rebelde conseguiu fazer muita coisa de maneira diferente. Obrigada Pedro.
DeleteShe was a very special person, it was a tragic way to go at such a young age. That's a lovely memorial Sami 💙
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace, the street name plaque was a lovely find.
DeleteThat tile is very nice, and thank you for including her sayings.
ReplyDeleteShe is still missed.
All the best Jan
Thanks Jan, I would think she would be terrible missed in the UK specially.
DeleteI still remember that day so well - lovely tiles.
ReplyDeleteWren x
