Monday Mural - Wacky bus stop mural

Looking through some pictures taken last year I came across quite a few photos of murals I still hadn't posted.
I'll start with this one painted by Perth artist Stormie Mills at a bus stop in Ord street, just across from the Fremantle Arts Centre.

The Fremantle Arts Centre (bottom photo) was originally a lunatic asylum built by convicts in the 1860's.
It closed in 1941 due to campaigns by women's groups, as the place became known for sadness, suffering and even murder. It's rumoured that it's now a haunted building.
Probably the reason why Stormie Mill's wacky figures were painted at this bus stop!

    1. I agree it could be a bit scary to look at that while waiting for the bus. I certainly wouldn't like to be there at night!

  3. Yes and then you have to wait there?

    1. I think it has to do with the history of the building across the street - the Fremantle arts centre. Thanks Karl.

  5. I actually liked it. I thought it looked a bit like art I've seen in museums. Call me strange, but I think it's quite good, and probably the perfect location for it, so close to a former mental asylum.

  7. Another artistic bus stop, although this one a bit on the dark side. The work is still good and I guess it does send a message due to its location.

  8. Stormie Mills has such a distinctive style Sami, I don't understand it most of the time, but he is very well respected around town.

  9. Definitely a unique style of art - a creepy link with the past history of the lunatic asylum.

  10. More bus-stop murals? I like that. The subject in the artwork and the story of the center make it a very eerie place, I'm sure.

Thank you for the backstory, Sami. Interesting :)
    Have a good week.

    1. Thanks Nambiar. I have visited the museum a few times but never came across a ghost, but there's a rumour it's haunted.
