Mural spotted in in a car park between Ardross Street and Kintail Road in the suburb of Applecross, when I went for coffee with Dr S, after the Embroiders' Guild of Western Australia exhibition.
Painted by Claire Foxton, a Wollongong (city south of Sydney, NSW) based artist and designer with a large body of public across Australia, New Zealand and the United States. She's known for her vivid photo-realistic portraiture - often local identities - who through their actions and strength of character, remind us of our shared humanity.
This one portrays fish and other aquatic creatures and was a private commission by a developer, part of a "Percent for art scheme".
(The Percent for Art Scheme - this is a Western Australian State Government initiative that started in 1989, that requires up to one percent of the construction budget for new works over $2 million to be spent on artwork).
Nice fish! We have seen lots of aquatic life in the past week onboard a ship in the Galapagos Islands. Some day I hope to see the Great Barrier Reef again, with the fish in your murals.

I love how this artwork transforms a simple car park into a vibrant space full of life and color. The "Percent for Art Scheme" is such a fantastic initiative—it’s great to see how public art can be integrated into urban development, making everyday places more beautiful and meaningful.
