Monday Mural - The Boxing Croc

I love murals and street art. If you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme is for you.  Just follow the Linky steps below.  Once you start looking you will find murals everywhere.  The "Monday Mural" meme goes live on Monday at 12,01AM, Perth,Western Australian time. Be sure to link back to this blog and visit your fellow posters. Looking forward to your mural finds this week.  Thanks, Sami.

The last mural of the year 2021 was painted for the Darwin Street Art Festival 2020 by Franck Gohier, a Darwin based artist, and it can be found at Shadforth Lane in the Central business district.

In the artists words, this mural represents:  "The ‘Boxing Croc’ image represents a time in the late 80’s when my best mate’s mum owned a small take away shop at Humpty Doo. We would go and help out sometimes and imagine that the Boxing Croc was our own Territory version of Godzilla. In Japanese culture Godzilla was a metaphor for the USA and the fears of nuclear devastation brought on by the events at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Also at that time American B-52 bombers were landing in Darwin for military exercises with undisclosed payloads to the dismay of many locals".

Wishing all my friends and readers a wonderful 2022.

    1. Thank you Tom. It was a much quieter Christmas this year.

  2. Dearest Sami,
Well, the crocodile might send a message that people have invaded in their territory...
    Hugs,

  6. What a wonderful find, Sami. It reminds me of art by Roy Lichtenstein (without the dots, of course). I loved this and the back story by the artist. I hope you have a fabulous New Year's eve and a great 2022.

BTW, you should check your time remaining for this blog link post. Otherwise, we will be looking at it all of 2022!

    1. That's right, very similar to Roy Lichtenstein's art.
Our New Year's Eve will be different from all the previous years as I think we will just go to Kings Park and watch the fireworks from there.
Thanks for spotting the timeline on the mural link...a huge one for sure, lol. I've changed it now :)

    1. I never tried croc meat but don't wish to try either, lol.
Thanks Iris, and I'm sure we will meet again. Maybe next year we will visit Germany. WA's borders will open the 5th February, but not able to go before June as Jose's holidays only due then.

  10. Love your Christmassy Header, Sami! Hope that you had a happy time with the family. That's an impressive mural and thanks for the backstory. Those days seem so long ago and yet they really weren't. Hoping that 2022 is a peaceful one and full of joy for you and yours.

    1. Thanks Jo. The header was made up of some of the city's Christmas decorations from last year. It was a quiet Christmas this year, a lot of friends decided to travel in Western Australia since they haven't been able to go overseas, and my grandson had chicken pox so the family wasn't able to come for Christmas eve dinner. We just had some long time friends at the table this year.

  12. It's not hard to figure out what was probably in those payloads. The mural evokes an era doesn't it.
