Feline Friday - 11th birthday

On Monday 17th of September my 3 cats will be 11, but since it's Monday Mural day I'm joining Feline Friday today.

The birthday felines - Fluffy, Twiggy and Shelley curled up together in bed

If you've been following me for a while you might have read my posts about how I "inherited" my cats.
It started with the 2 females who used to pop around when we bought our house. Both had pink collars and looked well fed. I used to pop little notes on their collars to see where they belonged, but I never got a reply. A short while late we discovered they were pregnant and then they both gave birth to 4 kittens each, on the same day, just outside my son's bedroom window. A week later we brought them inside as it was cold and wet.

Five of the kittens were adopted, my son wanted to keep one of the male ginger cats - "Fluffy", and then we kept the 2 "ugly" tortoise shells that didn't get adopted - "Shelley" and "Twiggy".

Mommy with the 8 kittens (4 were her's and 4 were Baby's)

Baby and Mommy feeding their brood

The mothers have unfortunately died young - "Mommy" in March 2014 mauled by the neighbour's dog, and "Baby" in February 2015 with liver cancer.
So we started with 2, then 10, then 5 and now we have three!

Happy 11th to my babies!

  3. Sami, you were almost ready to earn the title 'cat lady'. They are lovely photos of those still here and those who are not. You carpet looked like it would be quite at home in the local pub twenty years ago, sticky and stiff with the combo of spilt beer and cigarette ash.

    1. That will probably be my title in my old age "the cat lady"!
The house was a homage to the 70's, from furniture, carpets, tiles...but we managed to negotiate the price and a few months after we moved in we ripped it all out and started doing renovations.

  4. Não sou pessoa de gatos (a não ser o Garfield). O rapaz lá de casa desperta paixões nos gatos dos amigos.
    Adorei ver estes três fofos.

  5. Dearest Sami,
What a LOVE story... These two felines that were pregnant were so lucky for finding you!
Sad that some people abandon them and worse, neglect the so needed spaying and neutering.
The very tragic ending by being mauled by a neighbor's dog is heart breaking. Such dogs should not roam free... And liver cancer was sad too.
Your three now are as old as our 4 (from 5 as we lost Sacha...) they however turned 11 on March 30. All are well and happy and that's how it should be. Guess there are no ugly cats; people have to discover their character and there is no difference.
    Big hugs to you,
    Mariette

    1. Thanks Mariette. I'm not sure they were abandoned, but they certainly moved into our lives pretty quickly, so I think they thought we were better :) Indeed they were lucky cats!
I know I called them ugly, specially Twiggy was quite funny looking with her asymmetrical face colouring, but she grew on us and we love her.

  11. Oh my gosh that was quite a brood at one point Sami! You're so good taking them in like that, they were lucky pussycats! It has happened to me a few times also, it's a little bit heartbreaking when they get sick though. There must be so many feral cats out there, so sad, especially in winter ✨
