I'm finally posting the murals painted during the street art festival " "No more blank walls" , which took place from the 17th to the 27th of October 2024!
The festival was organized by artist Jerome Davenport, to celebrate street art, with 11 murals being painted in the inner city suburb of Subiaco (also known as Subi).
On Friday 25th October, I took the the train to Subi on my day off work, and most of the murals were still in various stage of being finished. Some of the artists were on their lunch break when I went by, I met Jerome (who happens to be the son in law of Dr S who works in the clinic where I work) and we chatted about his recently painted murals, and I also chatted to a couple of other artists, one of them being Graeme Miles Richards, the artist who painted "140 birds","Wombats", "Springtime in Bayswater", "East,West", etc.
Graeme was painting a very long mural on Walmsley Lane, titled " Whimsy on Walmsley" which included tiny penguins, dogs, a flying cow, pink flamingos, an astronaut....
"It's a continuation of the artist's series featuring "random floating things" that creates a whimsical narrative that encourages reflection, curiosity and the joy of finding meaning in randomness".

The painted murals:
I went back to Subi in May this year for the Mother's Day Flower Festival and managed to take photos of some of the completed murals.
The second mural for today - "Unexpected Journey" by Dan Bianco on Hiddlestone Lane, pays tribute to the building that used to be a lamp and electrical factory in the early 1900's, as well as paying homage to Subiaco's train station that was built in 1924 to serve the growing population of the area after World War I.
"A startled driver and historic symbols invite viewers to imagine the untold story unfolding on the tracks".
On the corner wall were "planes" and bicycle rims, that I presume were from an earlier mural festival.

DeleteThese are great fun and it's wonderful that you had a chance to talk with the artists. I love how the astronaut is seated on a bench while the animals and other things around him are floating as if weightless.
