Looking forward to your mural finds this week.  Thanks, Sami.

Mural painted on the corner of the new BP service station on the corner of South street and Gilbertson road, in the suburb of Kardinya, city of Melville, inaugurated in September 2020 and painted by Perth artist Joanna Brown @laelinedesign.

The mural is part of the Percent for Art Scheme, a State Government initiative started in 1989, where up to one percent of the construction budget for new building works over $2 million are to be spent on artwork commissioned from local artists.

Green Kangaroo Paws, Red Wattles, (yellow) Acacia Denticulosa , eucalyptus leaves

Joanna is also the artist who painted 2 murals in the suburb of South Perth, as per my posts of April 2020 and September 2019:

  1. It certainly fits the area well. I like how it wraps around and the symmetry. She's certainly a great artist. I think the black background added to what I would call a POP factor.

  5. The commitment to art, and the allocation of funds, on new construction is a great idea.

  6. That's a good idea about committed art work spending. I think we have something like that here but it is a long time since I've heard it mentioned. These are good murals and money well spent.

  8. Dearest Sami,
    That is huge and bright!
The shape for yellow or golden wattle is not accurate though as the flowers are perfectly round dots... To me it looks more like the Acacia denticulosa.

    Mariette

  11. 1989! Wow, no one should ever say again Germany is advanced!!! We are so not. Murals only made it over here a couple of years ago in that style! OK, maybe a bit more but back then we had but ugly graffiti.
Beautiful mural, I love these flowers.
We have an Australian section in the Botanical Garden, do you remember the place?
When (not if!) lockdown is over I go and have a look.

    1. Oh Iris, I can't even remember if I ever visited the Botanic Gardens in Braunschweig. Back then, sadly I wasn't as inquisitive and interested in seeing it all...

  18. It's a good one, Sami. We have the same type of art funding here. It really makes a difference when art is included in a project.
