Monday Mural - Triple Tangle

Flanking the staircase, on the foyer of the Museum of Contemporary Art at Circular Quay in Sydney - is the 15 x 7 metre mural entitled "Triple Tangle" by Sydney artist Gemma Smith, painted in 2018.

Every year since 2012, the Museum commissions an artist to paint the foyer wall, but even though the works are temporary, they give the artists a high visibility, as over a million people visit pass though the Museum doors annually.

If you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme is for you;

Thanks, Sami.

On my last visit to Sydney in October 2018, another brighter mural was in the same spot.
Painted in 2017 by Pakistani born, Sydney resident artist Khadim Ali, it's called "The arrival of Demons".
Which one do you prefer?

  2. WOW, so amazing. I like them both, but for different reasons. The tangle is so contemorary, which I like, but the other one is really much more colorful and unique. I suspect the Demons will win hands down!

  5. While I know murals are temporary, it is a bit of a shame that the old one disappeared, but at least you took photos for us.

  6. I'm sure temporary murals give artists a boost.
As for the 'Arrival of Demons' I like the pic take from the bottom of the stairs, the most. :)

    1. Thanks Iris. I it's sad to see some murals disappear, but this way a lot more artists get their day in the sun :)

  9. I love the demons, though they may have deterred some people from entering!
What a great idea to rotate art in this way - just like street art

  10. interesting; demons are eye-catching, but the tangle sucks you in trying to untangle it.

  11. These murals are quite impressive, I like them both. Being temporary is good for other artists to be recognized for their talent too.
Have a wonderful week Sami and thanks for hosting.

  15. Wow! Between your finds and those of your readers, this is quite a collection! I like yours both - I think Tangle would make me dizzy after awhile - but in a good way. And the demons? Well, not really a fan of having those hanging around watching me, but the technical skill is amazing! I wish these could be painted on some sort of vinyl backed surface so they could be peeled off and used again somewhere else to spread the joy - and to preserve amazing work for a bit longer!

  16. I like the "demons"! From the name you might think of it as a bit sinister but it's not.

  19. Dearest Sami,
The first mural photo is far calmer than those fat-bellied demons!
Do they all have a beer-belly or what?
Thanks for showing their enormous proportion by photographing real people next to them.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  23. I think both are remarkable but oddly enough, I, the realist, find myself loving the squiggly one most. Go figure!
