Painted in April 2021 by the very talented Graeme Miles Richards, it can be found in a little laneway off Whatley Crescent next to the Australian Post in the suburb of Bayswater.

Graeme was born in Nelson, New Zealand, but moved to Perth over 30 years ago and set up his business Art Fresco Design.

He is also the artist of the East West Design (Furniture and Homewares Warehouse) mural - which I have shown here on the blog.

I have never shown you the other side of the mural at East West Design, which I will show next week.

This Perth sign with flags can be found at Yagan Square. The flags represent the 78 different nationalities that call Perth home.

Perth has had a record breaking 5 days in a row of scorching heat, with temperatures peaking above 40°C (104F), temperatures not seen since 1897! 

Luckily since this Monday, the temperatures have dropped slightly, with a weak "cold front" sweeping the State, and temperatures dropping to the low 30'sC (89,6F), although they are set to rise again after the 28th January for a couple more days.

Of course the UV can be quite high... so SLIP, SLOP, SLAP 🌞

Painted in 2020 by Shaun Lee (aka Hafleg) (the blue side), and Trent Lee, (the orange side).

Both artists are Darwin born and raised Larrakia, Wardaman and Karajarri men.

 The mural can be found at Nutall Place, Darwin. Sadly it had a huge container in front of it, but I thought the mural was nice enough to be featured.

Hafleg is also the same artist that painted the turtle.

Barramundi - an Aboriginal name for the Asian Sea Bass/Australian Sea Bass, a  very popular fish in Australian as well as Asian cuisines.

Who likes vegemite? I don't!  I remember Marmite and Bovril in South Africa, but was never a fan of them either.

Monday Mural - Aboriginal Seasons

This bright mural was painted by Darwin born artist Jason Lee, a Larrakia, Wardaman and Karajarri man, and it depicts the seven main seasons of the indigenous calendar. It was painted in 2018 for the Darwin Street Art Festival, at the entrance to a car park in West Lane, Darwin.

The seven seasons make far more sense in Australia than the western four seasons, by taking notice of what happens seasonally with our native plants, animals and weather.

The seven seasons are:  • Balnba (rainy season) - November to December - long bums, black plum and bush potatoes. • Dalay (monsoon season) - January to March - crocodile laying eggs and big red apple fruiting. • Mayilema - March to April - dragonflies and bush cherry. • Damibila (Barramundi and bush fruit time) - April to June - black cockatoo and bush peanut. • Dinidjanggama (heavy dew time) - June to August - dugong and water Lillie’s. • Gurrulwa (big wind time) - July to September - stingray and yellow kapok. • Dalirrgang (build-up) - September to October - flying fox, cocky apple and cycad nuts.
