Thanks Sami

Photos taken during our trip to the coastal town of Cervantes (about 2h north of Perth) in October 2023.

We stayed at the beautiful RAC Cervantes Holiday Park, and just at the entrance there was a cafe called "Sea Shells Cafe". This old caravan advertised their business. Isn't it so cute?

This camping van looks very cheerful and reminded me of a field of Spring flowers.

By the beach, the public toilets had this mural of the Pinnacles, the rock formations at the Nambung Desert National park.

In a plaque by the mural is written:

The mural explores the duality of the landscape which surrounds the Cervantes area.
Central to the composition is a Wrasse fish which can be found in the Indian ocean. This stretch of coast is lettered with shipwrecks, therefore divers are pictured observing a wreck below, with the town being named after a ship lost in 1844. The darkness of the water emphasises a further sense of the unknown and intrigue.
The Pinnacles which are located in the nearby Nambung National Park frame the underwater scene.
The saturation of the pinnacles has been increased to reference the alien like nature of their shapes.
Cervantes main industry is lobster fishing, and a lobster is positioned taking refuge behind one of the pinnacles.
The mural was made possible by the Cervantes Art Committee, with artist Jarrad Martyn and the children of the Cervantes and Badgingarra Primary schools. Painted in 2017

  10. Oh, Sami...
We had ALL the time in 1999 and all we did was getting our windscreen getting fixed in Cervantes - we had no idea about the shipwrecks and what else to explore!
    Nor did Ingo have lobster...
We missed so much as there was "no internet" back then, all we had was a paper-copy of Australia´s Lonely Planet. Yet, of course, I have to be thankful we could go at all...
    Nice to learn more now.
Cute caravan indeed. And just yesterday I finished a 1970´s wall hanging I got in Madeley that just reminds me of your flowery campervan there :-)

    1. The internet makes it all so much easier nowadays. We can find all the info beforehand. But I've been to Margaret River at least a dozen times and had never been to Hamelin Bay (just 36km away), and never knew about the stingrays either...
