Monday Mural - Alcantara train station, Lisbon

I found these murals at the pedestrian tunnel leading to the "Alcantara-Mar" train Station, on the Lisbon to Cascais line.

This  is also the best station to access the Santo Amaro docks, where you can find lots of cosmopolitan bars, restaurants and night clubs by the riverside, just under the 25th April bridge.

Over 40 murals were painted by several artists belonging to the Portuguese Association of Urban Art (Apaurb) with the help of 400 volunteers.
They illustrate city views of Lisbon as well as some of the most iconic monuments of the city.

Unfortunately there is also a lot of graffiti, which saddens me because I can't understand why someone would want too deface a mural that beautifies a place.

In some of the building's pillars are other murals which are unrelated to the Lisbon cityscape.

  4. Beautiful murals. So sad when people destroy them. Must be a mixture of jealousy and high stupidity. Happens here also.
I like esp the stamps collection. And the bird.

  5. That tunnel is a treasure trove! Such great work.
It's sad to see all this beauty being defaced. I wonder how people have the heart to do that?

    I love pictures, Sami.
    Have a lovely week. :)

  6. This is a beautiful mural. Too bad taggers have defaced it some. At least in a tunnel it will be protected from the elements. Great photo essay.

  9. I was really impressed by the murals. They are a delight to see and a lovely way to show off the city. However, the graffiti was a bit overwhelming in some of the murals. Thanks for sharing these gorgeous murals with us because I really enjoyed them all (even with the graffiti).

  10. Fabulous selection. Pedestrian tunnels usually creep me out, the this one, with all its art, is wonderful. I guess the young twerps who tagged the murals never got the memo that it's a no no to deface a mural. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.

  11. Such beautiful murals and so many! I must confess that since I start reading your blog I started paying much more attention to murals everywhere I go. I did photograph a few of them in my latest trip to UK and Ireland. It's a lot of fun!
