Public Art in Victoria Park

Today it's not murals, but some interesting public art works around the suburb of Victoria Park.
The steel swan and kangaroo on the corner of Albany Highway and Duncan street stand in front of the Victoria Park post office.
Created in 2012 by Janet Nixon (From Greg James Studio) in Fremantle , "Penny and Pound" - the swan and the kangaroo, are named after the stamp emblems in the early 1900's, when the Vic. Park post office was built.
Remember the dog "Blondie" in Fremantle? The same style, the same sculptor.

Penny and Pound - the Swan and Kangaroo

This cake slice and spoon rubbish bin at 880 Albany Highway, is quite attractive for a rubbish bin don't you think?

On the corner of Albany Highway and Harper street, this very cool movie reel extends into a bench.
"The real seat", made of steel, aluminium and sandstone, by Afghan born Mehdi Rasulle, stands in front of a former movie theater that closed in 1964. The building now houses a business center.

Did you enjoy these artworks? Hope you're having a wonderful Sunday!

  2. Yes, I recognise the style, awww are they cute, the roo and black swan!
    The rubbish bin looks huge!
Very cool (or in summer rather hot?) arty bench.
I´m nibbling on (sadly only American) Jerky btw, reading your blog :-)

  3. Yes, the bin is huge. I guess being made of steel the bench could get hot...
Enjoy your jerky, that's something I don't like at all, we had biltong in South Africa and I always felt as if I was chewing on rubber... Glad we don't all have the same tastes!

    1. I tried biltong, too, I didn´t like it (H is from South Africa, too, and gave me some from the SA-shop in Perth) - it´s different to jerky!

    2. Oh well, never tried jerky, I thought it was similar.

  4. Dearest Sami,
As a matter of fact I can far more appreciate this type of real art work far better than those murals.
Love the duck and the kangaroo especially!
    Sending you hugs,

    1. Thanks Mariette, I suppose this type of art is more real and true to life than murals, but there are some great murals around too.

  5. These sculptures and the murals in your previous post make a wonderful collection! I am partially to Penny and Pound, though! I just love the way they "own" that street corner!
