On Monday 23rd February I had met up with Iris in Fremantle to go and photograph murals.
I knew from social media that a Portuguese artist - Bordalo II, had been painting a mural in Fremantle in the last few days of the previous week, so I hoped to be able to catch him still painting.
The mural was finished, still fenced in, but we found the artist, Artur Bordalo and had a quick chat to him and learned that this was his first artwork in Australia and that he will be coming back towards the end of the year to create another mural for the Swan Valley Art trail.
Bordalo's grandfather named Artur Real Bordalo (1925–2017) was a well-known landscape artist in Portugal.
Another one of his 3D Big trash animals, using plastics and other discarded materials to highlight environmental pollution, can be seen at The Piazza Fremantle (South Terrace). This time a mom and baby quokka - the little marsupials native to Western Australia, mainly seen in Rottnest Island.
The Piazza was looking quite unloved, and is now going through a revival, with further artworks being painted later in the year in a mural festival to take place in November.

And to show how lovable they are, here are a few pictures of the little quokkas taken at the small Rottnest Island , 19km from Perth.

Marsupials always look very cute. I think it’s because of their bright eyes. Nice murals you found.
ReplyDeleteThank you Mae. The quokkas are even cutest being so small.
Delete...Sami, this is an interesting mural style with an important environmental message. Thanks for sharing and hosting today. Be well.
