In August I drove to the suburb of Bayswater, just north east of Perth's city centre to get a quote, and I came across a few murals on the main road - King William Street.
Wrapping around the Bayswater Community Centre is a mural commissioned by the City, and painted by muralist Hurben (The Baysie Rollers project). It portrays black swans, birds and emus, relating to the history of the area with connections to the river and local wildlife.
Around the corner on Olfe Street Hurben's mural continues with a few quirky characters painted on the walls of the Child Health Centre.
You had me at Black Swans!! These scenes are incredible and so are the swans. Just stunning. Thanks for hosting and thanks for the black swans among the other fauna today.
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth. I know how you like the black swans. They are unique for sure!
DeleteYes, a great style! Black
ReplyDeleteswans and the bird are stars of the day? Thank you, Aloha Sami
Thanks Cloudia :)
Delete...Sami, youfound some great murals, the black swan is my favorite! Enjoy your weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you Tom.
DeleteThese are all great. I especially love the swan with the flora and fauna growing from its feathers. Those quirky characters in the second mural are also great.
ReplyDeleteThanks Sharon. That swan is beautifully done, looks like a flower vase.
DeleteYour mural photos (among other things) always illustrate the large number of bird species native to australia. So great! I’m always amused that the term “black swan” has been used to mean something impossible. I guess those show-off economists aren’t birders!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting … it’s so much fun to see what murals people discover on almost every continent.
best, mae at maefood.blogspot.com
The black swans are the State birds of Perth, and the Swan river which divides the city was named after them. Thanks Mae
DeleteI'm liking the murals, the last one is especially trippy but fun.
ReplyDeleteI don't really get that last mural. Trippy as you say, lol
DeleteThe bird is so colourful.
ReplyDeleteThanks Roentare.
DeleteThe swan as a serpent is interesting - mixing the 2 cultures...
ReplyDeleteYes I noticed that too, on the swan on the side wall. Thanks Lydia.
DeleteBeautiful. The last one is very strange in a surrealistic way
ReplyDeleteThanks Kwarkito. That last one is a bit strange, looks like an upside-down mouse to me.
DeleteAs minhas filhas viviam em Bayswater...Londres.
ReplyDeleteBoa semana
LOL, aqui parece ser o unico suburbio na Australia com esse nome.
DeleteQuite some imagination was used with these ones and it mostly works.
ReplyDeleteThanks Andrew, specially the second lot, the artist used quite a lot of imagination, lol
DeleteBeautiful ones. The one in the boat is a tad creepy, though...
ReplyDeleteI think the last one is worse, the one with the boy on the boat, he has a swan head. Thanks Iris
DeleteLooks awesome, Brilliant mural works
ReplyDeleteThanks Rupam.

ReplyDeleteThanks :)
DeleteHello,
ReplyDeleteA wonderful collection of mural and images. I do enjoy seeing all the birds, well done. Have a great day and happy week ahead.
Thank you Eileen.
DeleteI really like the characters on the Child Health Centre, Sami.
ReplyDeleteThanks Pat, they are very quirky.
DeleteThat is a perfect mural for a children's health center. It should make the children feel better.
ReplyDeleteThanks TFG, I do hope so :)
DeleteDear Sami, another very pretty mural - I particularly like the black swan with the flowers on its back, and I also find the fairy-tale-like characters at the children's health center funny! :-)
ReplyDeleteAll the best and a happy new week, Traude
