Monday Mural - Giraffe

This mural on the rooftop walls of the Many 6160 building in Fremantle (a former Department store now housing a mix of retail and creative spaces and a rooftop event space).

The giraffe was painted by James Giddy, a young artist who was born in  Johannesburg, South Africa, but moved to Perth at a young age.

  1. The giraffe is in contrast with the paintings next to it. Wonder why.

    1. S.C. I assume the mural next to the giraffe was done by the same artist due to use of the same colours and the proteas, which are a South African flower.

  6. The giraffe was great, but it was in stark contrast to what I perceived looked like graffiti in the remainder of the mural. It seems odd to me that a department store or even a bunch of shops, would sanction this.

    1. Hi Elizabeth, I couldn't find information on the mural next to the giraffe, I just assumed since it's the same colour tones and has Proteas that are the emblem of South Africa (James home country) it would also be his.
The building, a former department store is now a centre for the sale of creative arts. Outside of the building there are 2 huge murals, and the walls around the rooftop have also been painted.

Here are some of the murals from outside and top of the building.

  8. Interesting style and a cute face, too. But you need the blue sky, otherwise it´s a bit sad, color-wise, I think.

    1. Well seen Iris, yes the blue sky helps tone down the dark green and black tones of the mural.

    2. Well, having so much grey skies here I guess I just have an eye for it... Sad, actually!

  14. It looks like it was painted with a brush rather than a spray can. Fabulous rendering of a giraffe. And with personality too. Thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.

  15. I found a giraffe on a wall too this week! I like yours he has personality, mind you he'd have to surrounded by some rather weird neighbours!
    Happy Wednesday
