Friday 5th - I met up with two retired colleagues - Gill and Jan at Lo Quay River Cafe in the suburb of Wilson. The cafe sits just by the Canning river and is always full, inside and out due to its location.
In the afternoon Cody, the dog I was looking after was picked up. We missed him for a few days, but it's nice not to have to wake up extra early to take him to the park in Winter!
Saturday 6th - the only day we managed to do some gardening in between showers... as most other weekends this month we were busy and the winter rain didn't help. I also painted the vanity unit in the guest bathroom. I had originally painted it dark gray a few years ago, but black goes better with the back tiles around the bath, and on one wall.
Friday 12th - I was invited by Dr S. (who works with me) who is a keen embroiderer to meet with her at the Wireless Hill Museum in the suburb of Ardross to check the "The Embroiders' Guild of Western Australia" 55th Anniversary exhibition - "Samplers and Stories: A Contemporary Showcase".

A fantastic exhibition, very high standard of work and I was amazed at the patience people have to do such detailed work.
After the exhibition we drove to the nearby suburb of Applecross to have coffee and chat. (mural coming up)
Saturday 13th - Had family and some friends over for lunch.

Sunday 14th - In the morning, we went to the Swan Valley Cuddly Animal Farm to celebrate the 4th birthday of a friend's daughter. It was lovely to wander around and see the animals and to see the kids running around freely. They had animal feeding times when people gathered around to see the event.
When we left the kid's party we had lunch at an Italian restaurant also in the Swan Valley - "Pasta in the Valley".
Monday 15th - Time to see a hand specialist to figure out what is going on with my middle finger on my right hand, as despite numerous sessions with an Occupational Therapist at Hand Works, it's not getting better. He suggested I get a cortisone injection, that I had been avoiding... and if it doesn't work then return to see him a month later to discuss other options. Injection booked for 8th August! (murals coming up :)
Friday 19th - The committee of the Harvest Group got together for an informal meeting and dinner at Brando's Pizzeria in the suburb of Victoria Park. (mural coming up :)
Sunday 21st - The committee of the "Codfish Academy", of which Jose and I are part of, organized and cooked "Feijoada" (meat and bean stew) to be served in one of the rooms at the Portuguese Club. Food was great and it was a very popular lunch.

Friday 26th - we went camping at the RAC Cervantes camping place with 2 other couples. Cervantes is situated 2 hours north of Perth.
We had camped there in October 2023, and again we all went to Lobster Shack for their famous lobster dishes.
There is a lot of street art in this small country town and this time I had a map and we drove around to find it - small lighthouses in people's gardens and other quirky statues, plus lots of murals too.

A statue of Ned Kelly - famous Australian outlaw who died in 1880 at the age of 25, the weather vane and people on a bench made out of ceramic pots. |
We managed to enjoy 2 sunny days, but shortly after we woke up on Sunday the rain started, and we had to pack up quickly. Jose still got drenched, but before leaving to return home he went to have a hot shower and put on dry clothes.

Wednesday 31st - It was Jose's last day at his current work place. From the 1st he starts a new job, in exactly the same capacity, sitting at the same desk, in the same rail project, just working for a different company that offered him a much higher salary! He wants to make the best of his last couple of years before retiring. He will be having a farewell party on Friday 2nd August at his previous workplace.
