Monday Mural - Rock on

These photos were taken in 2017, probably during a visit to a friend who lives in the suburb of Mount Lawley, where these murals are located.

Both murals are on the walls of "Rock Inn" also known as "The Acoustic Inn", in Beaufort Street, and were painted in December 2016 by Bolivian artist Pablitosomething.

Monday Murals - Electrical boxes V

I've realized that I have a dozen or so draft posts with murals, so I'll be posting older ones once in a while.
A couple more of Porto's electrical boxes on Rua das Flores (Flowers street), a pedestrian street near Sao Bento train station, taken during our 2017 visit to Portugal.

Monday Mural - Roses and skulls

On one of my visits to Sydney last year, a took a bus to Bondi Beach. On the way there I alighted from the bus to take photos of this mural on the corner of Bondi Road and Boonara Avenue. Painted by Brisbaine born artist Steen Jones, who was originally a tattoo artist.

Signs - Coffee and another birthday

Interesting coffee signs - the first from a Portuguese cafe in Porto, and the last 3 photos from the Concept Cafe at Curtin University in Perth.

I'm not a coffee drinker, preferring herbal teas. In fact I haven't had a coffee in over 18 years, all due to a very strong Brazilian coffee that I drank while visiting a friend of my Mom's. After a short while, my blood pressure must have shot up because I started shaking. Mom and I went home and I went to bed to rest. The result was that even though I love the smell of coffee I can't make myself drink it at all 😕.

And I almost forgot...
Today is my Dad's 87th birthday.  He's still a very active and agile person, loves to sing, dance and his photography hobby.
And yes, our family seems to have a lot of birthdays in March.

Monday Mural - Woman

To celebrate International Women's Day on the 8th March, I wanted to post a mural of a woman painted by a woman.
Looking through unposted photos of murals I came across this one, which was taken during a holiday in Portugal in August/September 2017.

Painted on an electrical station in the suburb of Torre, Cascais for Muraliza 2016 by Paula Bonet , a Spanish book illustrator and painter.

It's entitled "Sa Nuvia Morta" after the song of Spanish singer Joan Miquel Oliver, whose song "Sa nuvia morta" (Her dead girlfriend) is sung in Catalan.

My daughter Karina also celebrates her birthday on the 8th March.
Gosh, I can't believe I've already got a 35 year old daughter!
I'm looking forward to her arrival on the 14th March, when we will both celebrate our birthdays with a party at home.
We are so proud of her, she's such a brilliant young lady - intelligent, hard-working, independent, friendly and very close to her family and friends.
Happy birthday to Karina!

Signs - Perth

The first photo of Perth's sign in front of the Yagan Square digital tower , and was taken in January 2019. The numerous flags show the ethnic diversity of Perth's residents.

When we went to the city for the Michael Bubble concert this past February, the sign was now white. Apart from other "adverts" showing on the tower, my favourite was the black swan.

The black swan (Cygnus atratus) is a  species of swan which breeds mainly in the southeast and southwest regions of Australia. Perth's main river, the Swan river was named after them, and they are also on the coat of arms and flag of Western Australia, apart from featuring in coins and names of sports teams.

Monday Mural - Under the Sea

I came across this long mural on the walls of the South Beach Cafe in South Fremantle when we drove along the coast on a Sunday afternoon.
(Fremantle,  Perth's harbour city is about 20km (12miles) from my suburb.

The mural was also painted by ArtbyD3stroy, the same artist/s that painted the two murals in Bunbury, which I've just shown in the last two mural posts.

As you can see they are quite different styles, which makes me think there must be a few different artists under that name brand.

Quite interesting the way the mural extends to the pavement.

Monday 2nd is a public holiday in Western Australia - Labour Day, but it happens to be my big birthday too. I'll let you guess...
We will just be celebrating by having a picnic with our son Michael, daughter in law and grandkids.

I love parties, and have left the celebration for the 14th March, as my daughter arrives that day from the Philippines to attend our granddaughter's 1st birthday and Christening on the 22nd. Karina's 35th birthday is on the 8th March, so we will celebrate together.
You will hear all about it when I post my March Wrap-up.

At age two and one from February.
