The prison is now a World Heritage site, and only used as a cultural attraction, .
Depicting a prisoner, rioters inside the prison and someone sleeping on what must have been a prison bed/hammock.

And since Jackie asked and for those interested in finding out who the man in the mural is - O'Reilly - here is a Wikipedia link - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Boyle_O'Reilly
Thanks.
Very well done! A bit scary, but wow - haven´t seen it last time. And funny enough we just spoke about the riot on Saturday when a documentary on a US-prison was on!
ReplyDeleteThanks Iris, it's been there for a while I think, according to what I read about bus-stop murals in Fremantle.
DeleteIt is beautifully painted. I like it when a mural pictures a story!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marleen, this one really tells a story about prison life.
DeleteThat is a very special place for a mural and so well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marianne. It really makes the bus-stop so much prettier.
DeleteHa ha, this is cool, a very special mural !
ReplyDeleteThanks Karl.
DeleteNow this is an unusual mural. Great find!
ReplyDeleteThank you Janey
DeleteI wonder who O'Reilly was.
ReplyDeleteGood question Jackie, I hadn't thought of that, but since you asked, I 've searched an O'Reilly connected to Fremantle Prison and this is what I found - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Boyle_O'Reilly
Delete...a completely different side of prison art.
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom.
DeleteTakes your mind off waiting for the bus for sure!!!
ReplyDeleteHave a great week
Wren x
For sure Wren. Have a great week too.
DeleteThis is a wonderful mural and so full of history. I have read about the Fremantle prison while learning about Australia, but never saw this, or knew about O'Reilly. Haunting and historic. This wall art is some of the best I've seen.
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth, glad you liked it and you've learned about Fremantle prison. There's also art inside the prison walls, painted by the inmates.
DeleteHi Sami, this is a very unique bus shelter with really amazing murals! It definitely works as it makes one stop & think! I am amused to find an
ReplyDeleteIrish man named in particular! Fascinating history!

Thanks for your visit Christine, glad you enjoyed my post.
DeleteWhat a great piece of art; a great depiction of the place, I'm sure. That's a job well done. If only all bus stops carried art like this.
ReplyDeleteI love your find, Sami. :)
Thanks Nambiar. Actually I've seen a lot of "artistic" bus-stops in some of Perth's suburbs, it's just difficult to photograph them unless I stop the car somewhere near them.
DeleteWhat a fab find Sami, I love the painted bus stops..Can you believe we were there not so long ago, didn't spot this one ☺
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace, they are pretty indeed! Fremantle has quite a few.
DeleteThat's an interesting location to have a mural. I vote for all the bus stops to have either art or libraries!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sara, yes, one or the other would be a good idea!!
