Monday Mural - Fremantle Prison Bus stop

This cute bus stop in front of Fremantle Prison caught my eye when I drove by recently.
The prison is now a World Heritage site, and only used as a cultural attraction, .

Depicting a prisoner, rioters inside the prison and someone sleeping on what must have been a prison bed/hammock.

For other murals from around the world please click this link.

And since Jackie asked and for those interested in finding out who the man in the mural is - O'Reilly - here is a Wikipedia link -     https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Boyle_O'Reilly
Thanks.

  1. Very well done! A bit scary, but wow - haven´t seen it last time. And funny enough we just spoke about the riot on Saturday when a documentary on a US-prison was on!

    1. Good question Jackie, I hadn't thought of that, but since you asked, I 've searched an O'Reilly connected to Fremantle Prison and this is what I found - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Boyle_O'Reilly

  9. This is a wonderful mural and so full of history. I have read about the Fremantle prison while learning about Australia, but never saw this, or knew about O'Reilly. Haunting and historic. This wall art is some of the best I've seen.

    1. Thanks Elizabeth, glad you liked it and you've learned about Fremantle prison. There's also art inside the prison walls, painted by the inmates.

  10. Hi Sami, this is a very unique bus shelter with really amazing murals! It definitely works as it makes one stop & think! I am amused to find an
Irish man named in particular! Fascinating history!

  11. What a great piece of art; a great depiction of the place, I'm sure. That's a job well done. If only all bus stops carried art like this.

I love your find, Sami. :)

    1. Thanks Nambiar. Actually I've seen a lot of "artistic" bus-stops in some of Perth's suburbs, it's just difficult to photograph them unless I stop the car somewhere near them.

  13. That's an interesting location to have a mural. I vote for all the bus stops to have either art or libraries!
