Dropping a friend at the International Airport recently I came across this mural painted by Perth's artist Kyle Hughes-Odgers.
It's painted over 9 walls - measuring 80 metres in length by 6 metres height - on the new domestic Terminal 2 building next to Terminal 1, the International Airport.
It was completed towards the end of last year and it took 22 days to paint!
The mural is entitled "A thousand lights", depicting an abstract aerial view of flying across the globe to Perth.
The mural has been lit with LED lights so that the night view should be quite fabulous!
Check out more murals from around the world at this link. Enjoy!
How could we miss that?! Maybe we came in differently cause our friend works there?
ReplyDeleteGosh, am I THAT nervous going on a flight?
You might have missed it because it's in the building next to the International terminal, I don't think it's visible from that terminal. I walked there from Terminal 1 because I knew it existed and I wanted to photograph it...
DeleteAhhh, good to know - so I´m not that nervous going on a flight :-)
DeleteDearest Sami,
ReplyDeleteSo that is Perth International Airport in Australia?
Why do such artists always have to explain what we are supposed to see... Would not be able to detect that on my own; hardly even with the knowledge of what it should convey.
Hugs,
Mariette
No Mariette, this terminal is a Domestic terminal next to the International Terminal. At the moment we have 4 terminals in Perth. The International airport is also undergoing an upgrade. I wouldn't have guessed what the mural depicted either...
DeleteThis looks like a contemporary patchwork quilt. Would love to see it lit up. Welcome and thanks for contributing to this week's Monday Mural.
ReplyDeleteThanks for letting me take part in your link-up. One of these days I'll drive there to get a night time picture.
DeleteThis is amazing! Yes, the landscape from a plane window does look like a mammoth quilt, protecting the earth!
ReplyDeleteThanks J, I'm glad you were able to interpret the mural's meaning.
DeleteI guess it is better than grey concrete walls.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you Diane, much better to have colourful walls.
DeleteThat is a lot of work to get that whole area painted!
ReplyDeleteIt took 22 days Marianne, it would probably take me a few months...
DeleteWow - looks fabulous, I love the way our Aussie Airports are going out to give a wow of a welcome.
ReplyDeleteWell done Perth and as other have said I bet it looks fabulous at night too!
Fancy us both having daughters in Amsterdam!

Thanks Wren, I must go out there at night and get a night photo... If your daughter needs anything in Amsterdam let me know and I'll get my daughter to contact her.
DeleteJust found your blog. I'm loving all this street art.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by Katharine, I'll go and give you a visit too.
