Signs - Diana

I was always a fan of Diana, since the came on the scene as a shy Kindergarten teacher dating Prince Charles, who she later married.
The Princess of Wales, who became one of the most admired women of the world died at the tender age of 36 in an accident in Paris almost 22 years ago, on the 31st August 1997.
When I was looking at my SIGN folder of photos I saw this one and thought it was just the ideal time to use it.

This sign was photographed in Cascais, a town 30km outside of Lisbon (Portugal), where my Parents and my middle sister live, and where there is an avenue dedicated to the Princess - "Avenue Diana Spencer" (Princess of Wales).

Monday Mural - A Splash of colour I

Back in May I went to the suburb of Canning Vale just 10 min away from me, to collect something I bought on Facebook Marketplace.
On the way there I was surprised with two murals, which I'll post in the coming weeks, and on the way back I noticed another mural just as I drove by, and had to turn around to photograph it.

Painted on both sides of wastewater cabinets in a small park,  they are part of a curated public art series presented by Water Corporation, entitled "Splash of Colour" which celebrates water conservation in our communities. 
The artwork was painted by Western Australian artist Mike Barker, known as Shime.

A plaque on the artwork reads: "Young and old the feathered locals come, swim and stretch out on the water. When they dive below they see the wonder of patterns and designs. But if you sit still for long enough and just watch, you might be able to see what they see as well".

My cats in winter

Just over 1 week to Spring and even though yesterday the maximum temperature went up to 27C (81F), today it has dropped to a maximum of 16C (61F) minimum 6C (43F) and the rain has returned.
Still good for winter temperatures if you compare them to European or North American winters...but I do prefer warmer weather.

Of course cats know just what to do when it's cold, and our cats, Fluffy, Twiggy and Shelley are no exception. Sometimes they will be curled up on top of a blanket on the sofa, in their little igloos in our bedroom, but most of the time they prefer to sleep in our bed.

  Shelley and Fluffy play musical chairs, when Fluffy decides to bully Shelley out of her igloo. Then she just climbs into the blue bed next to it, which none of the cats usually use.

Murals - Marseille Faces I

A mural from Le Panier Quarter in Marseille , taken when we visited the city in September 2017. 
Painted by a young French artist Manyoly. 
She's the daughter of an artist, and dreamed of becoming a psychologist but became an artist instead. Mainly self taught, she usually paints on canvas using brushes and water colours. When she doesn't have permission to paint directly on the walls, she paints on paper which she then pastes on the walls.

Saturday Critters - Birds in my garden

A couple of weeks ago when Jose was trimming the lemon/mandarin tree in our garden he noticed that there were two little doves already in the nest. 
I used to see the Mother or Father dove sitting on the nest before but had no idea the babies had been born.
This is probably the 4th or 5th time the doves have nested in the same nest.

We put the step ladder closer to the tree and I took some photos of the 2 tiny featherless doves.

Just about a week later they had flown the nest and they are now the most recent visitors to my bird feeder.
It's quite amusing to see that whenever I go and put seeds in the feeder,  I'm still busy there when the two small doves suddenly appear and wait on the back fence just a metre away.
As soon as I turn my back they first fly to one of the branches of the tree and then hop onto the feeder.

Friday afternoon Jose and I went to visit some friends who live in the nearby Air Force Retirement Village. They have a beautiful garden with plenty of fruit trees, vegetables and flowers. 

They gave us a basket full of plants for our garden and some avocados from their trees.

When we were sitting inside having tea and cake I spotted a couple of ducks just outside their front porch.

Apparently their neighbour feeds them, so they pop around every afternoon 😉. Very cute.

Ours will be cold and wet.
We've had warmer days, but the last couple of days the temperature has dropped, and the rain has been heavy. As I write this post the rain is pelting on the windows due to the high winds.

Today we had 8C min. and 17C max. (46F & 63F), but it will drop tomorrow to 5C min. and 15 max. (41 to 59F).  
Luckily from Monday the sun is back full time and the temperatures go up again. 
Just two weeks to go until the official start of Spring, can't wait...

Signs - Like no place on earth

Taken on my last visit to Sydney in June this year, of the P & O Pacific Explorer, one of the big cruise ships that I saw docked at Circular Quay.
It certainly wasn't the largest I saw in Sydney during the 18 months I visited the city, but it was the closest cruise ship I got to, as I cruised by on a ferry, on a day trip to Mosman.

Monday Mural - People

Going through my Draft posts I found lots of murals awaiting to be posted, and this is one of them.

This was part of over a dozen murals painted at Curtin University in April 2016 for the Public Form Festival 2016. Painted at the Science and Engineering Building 204, by Perth artist and illustrator Jae Criddle. Not the nicest one of the bunch for sure!

Signs - Where will I meet you?

Sign from my local "Coffee Club", a cafe chain with branches across Australia and New Zealand.
Not being a coffee drinker, the only time I frequent the place is when I meet up with some work colleagues every couple of months, and then I'll order a Hot chocolate in Winter or an Iced Chocolate in Summer.
They also have a splendid choice of breakfasts.

Monday Mural - Family

On the Saturday 20th July, when I drove to Safety Bay to buy the Fusion mineral paints, on my return home I went past a new residential development called "The Edge", in the suburb of Baldivis, about 30min south of where I live.

In the big park in the middle of the development were two pavilions with murals by Stormie Mills with his mainly monochromatic iconic characters. 
Painted in 2017 and titled "Family".
The artist was born in Northern Wales and moved to Perth with his family when he was 3.

It was a nice park with lots of child friendly play areas, barbecue area, and a large grassed area for the residents to enjoy.
On top of a gigantic tree some loud noises made me look up, and I saw a couple of Australian Ringneck parrots and I noticed one of them coming out of a hole in the tree.
