Coffee by the river

On Wednesday (2nd Aug) after work I met up with two former work colleagues for a coffee at the Lo Quay Cafe on Fern Road, Wilson.
The Cafe is ideally located next to the Canning River, surrounded by a grassed area with a playground for the kids and a covered seating area with tables and benches.

As we sat down with our drink - I tried a Turmeric Latte for the first time - a cheeky Willie wagtail hovered around us, flying onto an empty chair, or the wall surrounding the corner where we sat. They are such cute birds, and I love to see them in our garden too.

The seagulls also hovered around waiting for the people to leave their tables before jumping on the tables to steal food remains, then flying on to the grass and fighting over the scraps.

After a record 24 rainy days in Perth during July and another record of 12 consecutive days of rain, it was nice to finally experience a beautiful sunny day with a maximum of 16C (60F)
It was the perfect day to be out and about near the river and to catch up with friends.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

  1. Gosh, Sami, these are fabulous photos. It seems you have perfect weather right now. I'd gladly give you mine.

That little Willie Wagtail is adorable. I don't think they come this far north, because I've never seen one.

You and your friends picked a beautiful site for coffee. It sounds like the perfect scenery on a perfect afternoon. Enjoy your weekend, too, dear.

  2. Algo que incompreensivelmente continua a faltar em Macau - esplanadas junto à água.
    Há anos que batalho nisso.
    Sem resultados.

  3. That does seem like a lot of rain for Perth but then that's what our summer is usually like!

    1. Thanks Christine, the wagtails are quite cheeky, in my garden they play tag with the cats, but they are quick. Here it rains mainly in winter.

  5. I love the wagtail photos. It sounds very wet for Perth. Grace had the right idea and took to her bed. You did not give your verdict on a turmeric latte. I am not game to try it in case I don't like it and waste $4.

    1. We've had a lot of rain indeed, it's either too dry and now too wet!
Well, not sure I'll be ordering another turmeric latte Andrew, I can't say it's not good, but it just wasn't my type of taste. I think I'll stick to adding turmeric to food rather.

  6. It really was the most perfect winter day yesterday Sami, perfect for your catch up. I think I got a bit carried away as a result spent all of today on the sofa :(

    1. It was already 5pm Iris and the sun was going down and the cold was coming, but up to then it had been quite "warm" in the sun.

  11. Dearest Sami,
What a beautiful view of the Canning River you had from your café.
And... did you like your Turmeric Latte? You left that open but I guess you liked it.
The combination of Coconut milk with Turmeric is called Golden Milk and I used it recently in baking Turmeric Coconut Flour Muffins. They were really good.
    Sending you hugs,
    Mariette

    1. Not too sure about the taste of the turmeric latte Mariette, I'll have to drink it a couple more times to actually get a taste for it. This one I think wasn't hot enough either..
The view from that Cafe is beautiful. Thanks, and enjoy your weekend too.

  13. Looks a lovely place for coffee Sam, I am filling my lungs with all that fresh air! I'm with you on the turmeric latte? I was so excited having heard such good things about the healing powers of turmeric, but sadly it was not for me! Give me a regular latte any day!
