Back to more murals from Margaret River.

On the main street of Margaret River - Bussell Highway - on the walls of clothes boutique Marine and Co. Store is a whale painted in November 2019 by Owlet art aka Cara Sanders.

The Margaret River region has the longest whale watching season in the world hosting an estimated 35,000 whales as they migrate to our warmer waters between June – December.

Wanda the whale is inspired by the Southern Right and Humpback whales who migrate through our pristine waters.
Embellished with a blue wren, dolphins and waves, the shadow effect makes it feel as if Wanda is swimming the streets with you.

Right next to the whale is a colourful quirky mural painted by Ian Mutch, @stumcmillanart aka Stuart McMillan and @quodzilla.
The words say "Wooditjup", the name given by the Wadandi people to Margaret River.

  3. Yes, I agree with Tom. We see many whales in Hawaiian. They generally come in the winter. I'm trying to work out in my mind why they are in your neighborhood now because it's your winter. Fascinating creatures.

Certainly playing in America (though there are episodes playing in Australia, too!)

  14. Dear Sami,
Wanda, the whale brings back wonderful memories of our whale watching tours in California and especially Iceland. We saw so many humpback whales up close and it was a fantastic experience that I will never forget. A very beautiful mural - and the colorful Wooditjup mural also appeals to me.
    All the best, Traude

  18. The whale mural is lovely.

It was very, very sad today to learn about a whole pod of 77 whales die in 'biggest mass stranding in decades' in Orkney

    They are such beautiful creatures.
