Monday Murals - Monkey Bar

Two murals from Mandurah, painted by local artist Steve Briggs, painted at the Monkey Bar, located in Pinjarra Road.

He painted the murals for free as a way to give back to his community.

Apparently the technique used for the eyes of the monkey is the same used with the "Mona Lisa", where the eyes follow you no matter where you stand in the room.

If you like murals or have a mural you'd like to post, this meme is for you;

just follow the Linky steps below.  Once you start looking you find murals everywhere.
Be sure to link back to this blog and visit your fellow posters.  Looking forward to your mural finds posted this week.   Monday mural meme is posted at 12,01am Monday, Western Australian time. Thanks, Sami.

  1. That's a rather strange monkey. but it appears that the rest of the bar and lounge have equally unique murals. I'm back now and hopefully, my internet is much more stable than it has been up till now.

  4. It looks as if a graffiti vandal has painted over some of the monkey's jungle!

    1. Not sure if that's graffiti or if the mural was originally painted like that. Thanks Mae.

  6. Dearest Sami,
    Not a very nice mural but rather chaotic wild and not that arftul.
    Comparing the 'following' eyes with someone like Leonardo da Vinci is completely ridiculous. By far this 'artist' does not compare to da Vinci's level!
    Good that he painted this for free! Would never have hired him...

    Mariette

    1. I just wrote what I saw on the net about the artist. We certainly can't compare him to Da Vinci, but he tried the technique on the monkey's eyes.

  18. We've been discussing how muralists earn their living. I had looked into it a bit and found that cities put out requests for submissions and pay 18-25 thousand dollars a mural in the cases I found, not a big city.
    So your comment "painted for free" got my attention.
    The monkeys are adorable but I was intrigued by the traffic sign for the train.

    1. Thanks Jackie. Here I know of city councils who pay for the muralist to paint certain walls. I actually just noticed the sign when I posted the photo and was a bit baffled as there is no rail line there at all. I wonder if it was an old sign that just stayed when the area started being redeveloped a few years ago.
