Monday Mural - Discarded Romance

This week I'm posting a photo of a mural my daughter saw in Bonifacio Global City (BGC), (Manila) Philippines, in January this year when they spent a few days in BGC before going home to Batangas, after their Christmas holiday with us.

As I discovered when we visited in December 2018, BGC is one of the best places to see big scale murals. Can't believe we were so close to this place and missed it!
This one is at Fully Booked, a 5 storey bookshop, in High Street, titled Discarded Romance, by American artist Mike Stilkey.

The artist works with local libraries, as with wear and tear of books, libraries usually  discard them, and he gives the books a second chance with his massive art installations, painting lively characters over the book spines.

My daughter who is a bookworm, loved the mural, but at the same time she told me she felt sad that so many books are discarded.

What do you think?

  9. I loved this, Sami. Your daughter may feel sad, but most of those old books would end up in the landfill otherwise. This is a real beauty and anytime a cat is involved, it's a fun treat.

I can't believe I totally forgot to link today. DUH!

    1. True Elizabeth, here they get a second chance that will hopefully last for many years. And the cat is a great addition to the mural of course :)

  10. Quem pensa em Filipinas e apenas vê os bairros de lata tem muito mais que ver.
Pena as desigualdades sociais tão gritantes.
    Boa semana

  11. Wow, this is really... "awesome" - I don´t like the word, but stunning is as used up, is it. It´s a wonderful mural, but I have to admit.... I like my kindle! Easier, weight-wise and you have all the choices.
Right now I change my mind between "Hiroshima" and a book on cooking history. Hope your daughter won´t kill me next time ;-)

    1. Kindles are nice when travelling, I have a kindle that I never use, I also prefer the actual book, and Karina is the same. Thanks Iris.

  17. Oh this one is so beautiful Sami! BGC as we call it is filled with high-end stores and yummy restaurants and this Fully Booked branch at 5 stories does tell me it is in that area. Love this mural so much!

I've always always wanted to join Monday Mural but I don't have a photo of a Mural. I have to do more searching on my old photos for one :)

Sending you warm greetings from the Philippines Sami!
