And I chose the above mural with the 💗 because today, May 13th is a very special day!

My parents are celebrating their Diamond wedding anniversary (60th).

Sadly I couldn't be present to celebrate this special occasion with them in Portugal, but they are in my thoughts and heart.
I'm very proud of them for being such great role models in my life, teaching us family values, work ethic, kindness and respect for all.
I'm amazed that they are still very active people, who look much younger than they are and still participate in their community.
My Mom started a blog years in her late 60's, years before I started mine, she writes novels and poetry and has published a few books. She lectures at the 3rd Age University in Cascais, and my Dad is a keen photographer, has always been very artistic and also attends classes at the 3rd Age University. (The colour picture of my parents below has a black framed picture which was painted by my Dad).

They had 3 daughters, 6 grandchildren and are thrilled to be are around to see their
4 great-grandchildren.
They will be celebrating with family and friends with a lunch on the 18th.

Sixty years of happiness, love and loyalty to each other must not go unmarked.
We wish you many more years of love and good health together. Happy 60th anniversary!

April 2018, Portugal - with all 3 daughters and the 3 eldest grandchildren (and 2 sons-in-law)
Left to right: grandchild Robbie, daughter Luisa, sons in law both Jose's, daughter Isabel, daughter Sami, Dad & Mom and in the front granddaughters Nadine and Karina
July 2017, Portugal - the last time the whole family got together. Since then 2 more great-grandchildren have been born.

  9. Dearest Sami,
Congratulations to your dear Parents as this IS quite a milestone for being together!
I'm happy that I've made it to cross the Atlantic for Mom & Dad's 40th; 50th; 55th; 60th and 65th Wedding Anniversaries! Fond memories. We did a river cruise with dinner for their 60th as Mom was already on dialysis and not up to real dancing etc. at the usual venture. The 65th was an afternoon coffee/tea followed by a dinner and it ended around 22:00 as Mom could not last any longer than that. She did not live to see their 66th Anniversary...
Grandson Robbie is a good clone of your Dad! That proves again what we always have taught in biology, to look more at the 3rd generation for true comparison! It applies also to humans...
    Sending you hugs,
    Mariette

PS Sure do know how you feel as I've only been across the Atlantic for a few Birthdays and Mother's Days... There is a huge price tag to it; either in $$$ or emotional!

    1. That's nice Mariette that you managed so many anniversaries together. In our family it's so difficult to get everyone together when we are spread all over the world.

    2. Sami, my family is also spread over 3 continents... U.S.A., Australia and Europe. ❤️

  11. Oh, this is beautiful, Sami.
The mural, certainly, but even more the story of your family!
    Big, big congratulations from here.
It is truly wonderful to read such a story of a beautiful, active life, that hopefully will continue for a long while, too.
My MIL is still active in the garden and with the dog and also FIL is happy reading and cooking, but that sounds rather boring to what your parents are up to!
    I´m happy for you xox

  20. What a beautiful love story you shared. I can tell that your parents are special people in your life. This is a wonderful post of them and their happy milestone. Family values are SO important.

I thought the mural was haunting and rather disturbing. Can't put my finger on it, maybe the eyes, but also the whole expression. Art is always in the eye of the beholder, though. I'm sure others felt different about it than I.

    1. Thanks you Elizabeth, family is very special to me :)
I think it's the eyes, as even though it's so colourful the eyes are too wide apart giving the girl a strange expression. As you say we can't all like the same thing.
