We had two events this past Sunday - a birthday breakfast at the Royal Perth Yacht Club, which was founded in 1865 and is Perth's most prestigious yacht club in the suburb of Nedlands.
In the afternoon we had a farewell party for a Portuguese couple moving from Perth to Sydney.
Leaving home I saw the first rainbow which soon disappeared...
The club is just across the river from Perth's city centre, and it's a great background to the hundreds of beautiful boats. The sun eventually shone, the sky became bluer, even though it was quite cloudy.

As we left the club to go home we just drove around the suburb along the Swan River and at the end of one of the roads we came across another beautiful rainbow.

On the way home we cross the Mount Henry bridge over the Swan River, and the clouds are heavy and dark again.
In the afternoon we drove to the northern beach suburb of Trigg to join a group of friends to farewell a young couple moving to Sydney.
When we arrived there was a surfing competition just finishing. Can't believe anyone would be in those rough and cold waters ....
While we waited for everybody we had a hot drink at "Canteen coffee shop", and there was a little bird casually wandering around the place. The waitress said he was a regular visitor who came looking for crumbs. Sweet!
When everyone arrived we realized that we were far too many for the small coffee shop as well as they didn't serve alcoholic drinks, so we moved next door to "Kailis restaurant" where we had snack and drinks.

The second rainbow seems easier to find the pot of gold at the end of it! Perth seems a wonderful place!
ReplyDeleteYes, it felt like there could be a pot of gold right there - well, maybe all those fancy houses on the other side of the river, lol.
DeleteThanks Paula.
So hope you made two wishes, Sami!
ReplyDeleteI remember when we were droven to our cabin after our wedding and dinner there was a rainbow, too, and obviously that´s meant to be a good sign!
Beautiful range of shots, and, awww, the birdie reminds me of Penguin! Love those birds, they´re always so curious!
Yes, 15C is cold. I put on a jumper at 21 today!
Didn't think to make wishes Iris, I was so excited to be able to see the rainbows.
DeleteI know about Penguin, there's a film being made about him, it's a great story. The cold has arrived here Iris...
Oh, really, a film? Just ordered the book, will have a look again, thank you!
DeleteYes, it will be filmed in Australia, Naomi Watts as the main character, produced NY Reese Witherspoon.
DeleteBeautiful photos! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda.
DeleteSunday really was a rainy day Sami, we don't get too many like that, but we certainly need them. You caught beautiful rainbows here, I think I missed them while lying on the sofa 😀 the surfers never seem to let any weather conditions put them off!
ReplyDeleteThanks Grace, it certainly was a day to lie on the sofa. Brave surfers.
DeleteSami...
ReplyDeletePelo que me toca detesto chuva. Por aaui estamos, esperando o verao
Venha ele eu sou uma das amantes do verão
Kis :=}
Também eu gosto do verão, felizmente o inverno aqui é curto, é o que vale!
DeleteLucky you to have camera at the ready to snap the rainbows - I seem to miss them!
ReplyDeleteLove the photo at the marina and sweet little bird too!
Best wishes!
Thanks Christine, I had seen a rainbow a day or two earlier but was driving, so couldn't take photos, luckily my husband was driving this time. The bird was cute, used to the people around him.
DeleteYour two rainbows were incredible. I liked the first one because it looked traditional. The second one looked very different, I suspect because it was so large and low to the horizon.
ReplyDeleteThe boats at the marina were awesome. I loved the photos you took of them. And of course, that was a darling story of the little bird.
Thanks Elizabeth, it was the first time I saw a rainbow that low. The marina looks wonderful.
DeleteBelas fotografias, gostei bastante de ver.
ReplyDeleteUm abraço e continuação de uma boa semana.

Obrigada Francisco, boa semana para si também.
DeletePretty rainbows, I never manage to get one on photo!
ReplyDeleteThanks Marianne, I was lucky to get 2 rainbows that day.
DeleteFantastic rainbow! Have a lovely weekend Sami!
ReplyDeleteThanks Sara, you too.
DeleteTotally off topic, but while searching for another site, I found this one of Detroit's (Michigan in the US) urban renewal and street art.

I finally found what I was looking for: The Heidelberg Project.
http://www.heidelberg.org/
and
http://www.heidelberg.org/what_we_do/post_hab/heidelbergology-a-30-year-photo-retrospective.html
explains a bit about the project. There used to be lots of pictures on their site, like this one:
http://www.heidelberg.org/get_involved/employment.html
but now it seems they are charging to visit the project. Hope you find some of this interesting.
Actually, this is the video I was looking for:

Thanks Elizabeth, what a wonderful project, it has certainly brought those suburbs back to life. I recognized one of the artists - Saner, a Mexican artist who has painted a couple of murals in Perth.
DeleteDearest Sami,
ReplyDeleteWell, it looked like the heavens wanted to somehow 'frame' that bitter sweet farewell of your friends. Beautiful rainbows you captured, they always are mesmerizing.
Those clouds in the yacht harbor were really heavy at the moment of your photo.
You having a hot drink made me shiver even more, thinking about those surfers!
Sending you hugs,
Mariette
Hello Mariette, thanks for your lovely comments. Apparently surfers don't feel the cold like we do, at least like I do, as I hardly ever go in the water in summer, never mind almost winter...
DeleteHave a lovely weekend.
We were in Hawaii around Pearl Harbor Day and saw lots of surfers during the world championships. All people in the ocean were wearing wet suits and that's when we realized we got there at the wrong time. Husband Pieter explained to me that when the arctic stream meets the tropical stream, that creates the unusual high waves... But like you, I avoid the ocean for many reasons.
DeleteHappy weekend to you dear!
Your boats, water and little birds topped with a rainbow are stunning. I'm hoping you're making friends with the owners of MoetIce?!
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely Sunday
Wren x
Thanks Wren. Yes...I should hang out at the marina more often and meet some of owners of these fancy boats. :)
DeleteLovely to see both rainbows. There is always something a little magical about rainbows ... well I think so!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely lot of boats, Moet Ice looks great!
So nice to see and hear about the bird.
But I have to say Brrr that water looks chilly to me!
I hope you have had a good weekend, enjoy the coming new week.
All the best Jan
Thanks Jan, yes that water must have been freezing!
Delete15 graus, na Austrália e em Macau, é considerado frio.
ReplyDeleteNoutros locais é um calor insuportável.
Boa semana
Concordo Pedro. Temos sorte de ter o clima que temos onde vivemos.
