Here are photo collages of interesting tile signs, old tiles, traditional cobblestone pavements, interesting doors and windows and architecture, compiled from photos taken during my holiday to Lisbon in May this year.
Street name signs with tiles can be seen in some of the older areas of Lisbon and in Sintra |
Tiles, tiles and more tiles, some of them centuries old. |
Cobblestone pavements - a real labour of love, time consuming and not many craftsmen doing it! |
Modern and Art Deco - how do you like the arm holding the corner of this building? |
My new passion - doors and windows! There are so many beautiful ones...
I've even started "collecting" them on my Pinterest account, there are hundreds from all over the world.
And to end the post a single photo of a cute sculpture I found during one of my walks around Lisbon.
Enjoy your weekend.
My, in that last photo, that is a seriously big cock.
ReplyDeleteYes it was huge Andrew, I thought it was cute though.
DeleteBeautiful tiles! And wow, the cobblestone pavements sure are amazingly accurate. The last sculpture reminds me a bit of Happy Rizzi House. You have a nice weekend also - guess our temps will be the same, summer takes another break...
ReplyDeleteThanks Iris. Rizzi house didn't exist when we lived there, but I've seen photos of it and it's very different from what I would expect in the middle of all that architecture, but somehow blends in.
DeleteStunning photos! A whole world beyond each door.
ReplyDeleteThanks for your visit Isabela.
DeleteBeautiful, Sami! I love the street signs. And there are enough lovely doors and windows to keep you in business for quite a while :) :) Happy weekend, hon!
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo. You're right about the beautiful doors and windows, lol. Have a great weekend too, ours will be a mostly wet and gray one.
DeleteAll the nice items of Lisbon in one post, well done.
ReplyDeleteThanks Marianne.
DeleteI love an interesting doorway! And that hand is quite inpressive!
ReplyDeleteThanks Aimee, I thought that hand holding the corner of the building was very original.
DeleteIt must be tempting to throw your clothes out and pack your suitcase full of tiles to bring home Or maybe your home is already full of gorgeous Portuguese tiles? I agree windows and doors of the world make a lovely collection.
ReplyDeleteWren x
No gorgeous tiles in my house Wren, but I would love to hang some in my patio.A future project maybe...
DeleteWhat a wonderful return to the internet. This was a sensational post. Loved the buildings, the windows, the tiles, and the cock. It's a fun and colorful post.
ReplyDeleteThanks Elizabeth, glad you're back in business.
DeleteWhat a nice collection of photos.
ReplyDeleteIf I'm not mistaken the sculpture of the rooster is in the Martin Moniz square and the author is Rui Miragaia. We grew up together and his sister is my childhood friend. The world is so small ;)
Yes that's where the sculpture is Sara. Didn't know who the artist was, thanks for the info, and the fact that you know the artist is amazing!
