Monday Mural - Recycling bins in Lisbon

I'm back from my short visit to Portugal, where I found lots of interesting murals.

I'll start posting them once I sort out my notes about where I saw them and who painted them...

In the meantime here are some cute recycling bins. Hopefully they encourage more people to recycle!

Monday Mural - Cascais, Portugal

While visiting the beautiful beach town of Cascais, 30km from Lisbon, I couldn´t resist searching for murals.

This one was a great find, depicting the House of Santa Maria, built in 1902 and the lighthouse. You can see the original photo at the bottom.
I haven´t been able to find anything about the artist or artists...

The best news

I had known for a while - since the day my husband and I were invited to dinner by our son and daughter in law, and presented with a little gift each. When we unwrapped it, these mugs announced the good news. I clicked straight away, but I still remember my husband´s puzzled face...

It was wonderful news, but we were asked not to share it straight away, as they wanted to wait until the 12 weeks scan to make sure all was well.

It´s now been announced publicly (on Facebook of course, where else?), so I can now shout out to the world that I´m going to be a Grandmother in November!

Both Michael and Sara being very artistic, created a very cute announcement too - like a movie poster.

So our first grandchild is on the way... I can´t help it but I´ve already been shopping for some cute clothes in Portugal.

I'll be away for a couple of weeks but I hope to return with lots of pictures from my visit to Portugal. I'm not sure if I'll be able to post while away, but if I have time I might stop by and say hello.

 I certainly hope to have some time to go and taste the most delicious Portuguese Custard Tarts in Belem.

Monday Mural - the lady and the owl

This private commission was painted in 2012 on the fence walls of a house on Attfield street in South Fremantle.
Painted by Lady Bananas, Lady Poise and Tomahawk.

Personalised Number Plates III

This time I've got a few black number plates.

I'll start off with Catwoman, a woman after my own heart, lover of cats or maybe she's the superhero type...

Get Smart - do you remember the comedy TV series with Maxwell Smart aka Agent 86?

Still funny today! A really fitting plate for a "Smart" car.

Special - the car, the person, maybe both!

I think this Vuvuzela could be owned by a South African. Remember during the Soccer world cup of 2010 when the awfully loud vuvuzela was the sound of choice during the games?

The Mienie for a cute and modern Mini.

You might not be familiar with this expression, but Wog is a term used in Australia as a racial slur for people from Southern and Eastern Europe, and the Mediterranean region of the Middle East, who immigrated to Australia just after World War II.

The term Wogboy was also the name of an Australian movie from 2000, and then Wogboy II from 2010, starring Australian actors from Greek descent. Very funny!

I'm busy preparing my things to fly out to Portugal on Wednesday for a family celebration - the christening of my "great-nephew".

Murals - Sea Horse

This West Australian Seahorse or "Hippocampus Subelongatus" was painted during Public Form 2014 by Dutch born, Fremantle resident Amok Island on the facade of a six stories high building.

This building at 100 Hampton Road in Fremantle is used as a 190 bed lodge offering entry-level accommodation to disadvantage people.

Some companies and individuals, apart from Form have rallied to give the residents skills such as cooking, preserving, repairing bicycles, etc. to make the residents feel integrated into the community and allow them to earn money by participating in stall sales, etc.

A visit to the Perth Garden Festival

At the invitation of a friend who had complimentary tickets, my husband and I went to visit this year's Perth Garden Festival.
It was being held at McCullum Park in the suburb of Victoria Park, and started Thursday 28th, and ends Sunday 1st of May. 

The park borders the Swan River and there are views across the river to the city and to South Perth along the same coast - beautiful!

 I expected to see a lot more "garden design exhibits" but there were maybe 5 or 6 only. Apart from that there were lots of stalls selling plants, garden tools and other garden knick-knacks and then lots of stalls selling stuff unrelated to gardens, like kitchen tools, floor cleaning robots, wine...
I wonder if they didn't have enough gardeners to show their garden exhibits?

A beautiful "bowl" of succulents - just my type of garden

This rustic garden corner with a veggie garden and a seat, and then some stone armchairs around a steel drum fireplace - very rustic.

  This pavilion was selling succulent plants and had these beautiful ideas to plant them.
Can you imagine these beauties planted in drawers or a chair or a travel trunk? 
Next garden project - I've got to find an old chair or chest of drawers in the next verge collection! 

Some clever artisan makes these garden ornaments out of scrap metal - I liked the pink flamingos and the gigantic firepit just behind them to the right.

We had some lunch from one of the food stalls and then it was time for a delicious waffle with ice-cream and syrup from "Wicked Waffles" fe(forgot to take a photo).

And isn't the "Juice Face" caravan so cute? 

After a few rainy and cold days the sun was out, the day was reasonably warm and we had an enjoyable day.
Some more garden projects to add to the "To do" list too...

A very Happy Mother's Day to those that celebrate Mother's day on the 1st of May. 
In Australia it's only celebrated next Sunday, the 8th.
